Reviews
The interior was cozy, with a wall filled with signatures of their customers, cleaver. The server Anna knew the menu well, was very friendly and so nice, Hawaiian nice. She suggested their most popular dish, OGO’s oxtail katsu. It was so creative, tasty oxtail with a special katsu batter. She was right on. We also had the seared hamachi roll, it was so fresh. True story, my wife and I just came back from 10 days in Japan and had sushi at least half the time. I feel that the OGO seared hamachi roll was tastier than any of the sushi I had in Japan. We also met Chef Grant Oura, da man, who was kind enough to come out of the kitchen to speak to us. He was very nice as well. We found out that the restaurant has been at this location for just four months. I feel the best restaurants are the ones that become known by word of mouth, this is definitely the case here. I have no doubt they will be successful.
It is hard for any new restaurants to break into our top Maui list of restaurants but OGO is definitely on the list now.
Dishes:
1) Pohole fern and spring mix salad 5/5 – comes with a balsamic vinaigrette. I loved it! Might not be for everyone but the dressing was on point and it had some fund ingredients.
2) Lobster dynamite 4/5 – these are baked rolls which were super tasty. I just wish they hadn’t put so much of the cream sauce on top.
3) Korean chicken and tutu karen okra’s dry mein 5/5 – the chicken was on point and the noodles are (as listed) a bit on the drier side but it all goes well together.
I would definitely go back and try the other dishes + their lunch menu!
We had the Korean fried chicken, boneless short rib, tempura fried ribs, sidewinder fries, seared ahi sushi, Chantilly cake and guava chiffon cake. The food is simply amazing. Everything was very good. Highlights were the Korean fried chicken, the sushi and the Chantilly cake. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Just go! You won’t be disappointed!
Service: 4/5
Overall: The food was pretty standard fare.
The extended review…
Food:
Oxtail Katsu – 3/5 – I was super excited about this. I think what I didn’t like too much about it was the breading was pretty thick. I was looking more for the oxtail and it sort of got lost in the dish.
Sidewinder Truffle Fries – 3/5 – Nice and crispy. Pretty standard fare for fries.
Service: 4/5 – Friendly service.
