Our second Hawaii location, known for its fresh seafood bowls and our hugely popular Negitoro Don (minced tuna bowl), is now open on Piikoi Street in the Ala Moana area—just a short walk from Ala Moana Shopping Center. The interior recreates an authentic Japanese atmosphere, making you feel as if you’ve stepped right into Japan—not just in taste, but also in ambiance and hospitality. We proudly serve fresh, locally caught Hawaiian tuna, as well as uni (sea urchin), scallops, and ikura (salmon roe) flown in directly from Japan. Be sure to try our signature Negitoro Don, loved by many! If you love seafood and Japanese cuisine, this is definitely a place you’ll enjoy.

On Valentine’s Day, we came here an hour before opening, to stand in line, and we were the first ones (fyi it only seats 10 people max). It wasn’t necessary, but we wanted to secure our spot at this restaurant for sure. I got the Take Negitoro Bowl plus the Ikura Shower (I recommend this if you’re an ikura lover – it’s fresh and the marinade was perfect), and my husband got the Maguro Lover, which he loved.

Btw, the Ikura Shower comes with a special presentation from the workers with a song! So fun and this spot is the jam. I also ordered the miso soup and salad on the side – you can skip the salad.

I came to Totoya for dinner and had a smooth, satisfying experience from start to finish. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated, which felt perfectly reasonable given that this location has limited seating. The space is on the smaller side, so it’s worth keeping that in mind during busy hours—but turnover was efficient, and we were seated fairly quickly.

We ordered their famous bowl, and it truly lived up to its reputation. The ingredients tasted fresh, with bright, clean flavors that highlighted the quality of the fish. The texture was firm and well-prepared, and the rice was nicely seasoned—lightly vinegared and balanced without overpowering the toppings. Presentation was simple but appealing, allowing the natural colors and freshness of the ingredients to stand out. Portion size was satisfying without being overwhelming, and considering the quality, the price felt very reasonable. In terms of value, it struck a great balance between freshness, quantity, and cost.

The service was good and impressively fast. Staff were attentive and professional, making sure everything moved along smoothly without making us feel rushed. It was efficient, friendly, and hassle-free—exactly what you hope for in a casual dinner spot.

As for the ambiance, the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. The smaller dining area creates a comfortable, welcoming environment that feels relaxed rather than crowded. It’s not a flashy space, but it’s clean, comfortable, and perfect for an easygoing meal.

Overall, Totoya delivers where it counts: fresh food, fair pricing, efficient service, and a cozy setting. It’s a straightforward, enjoyable dining experience—and one I would definitely return to.

I visited Totoya Piikoi the other day and I had an amazing experience!! First of all the visual was beautiful. The fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful—you can really tell the quality from the first bite. The portions were generous, and the balance between the fish and rice was perfect all the way through.

The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly. If you’re craving authentic, high-quality Kaisen-don, this place is a must. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Totoya is a very small and popular restaurant specializing in Japanese kaisendon. The service is very friendly and the food is delicious and fresh. The main downside is that they are quite popular and space is extremely limited so it can be a pretty long wait to get a table. No reservations or signup sheet, you just have to stand in line. Otherwise a great experience.

The bowls are tasty and fresh. We came at night time around 6pm. There was a line but it was a quick wait. We got our food pretty quickly too. I love the fact that the menu is simple! Could a great daily place for a quick lunch

Tried the 福寿 Negitoro Bowl at Totoya — it was a new concept for me, and my friend recommended this place to me, so I thought it would be worth the try. The bowl ended up being about $50, which felt quite expensive given the overall quality.

Here’s my honest taste:
The negitoro is mashed fatty tuna. The taste is plain so please add a lot of shoyu sauce.
The shrimp was fresh and tasty, probably the highlight of the bowl. The sashimi is also good.
The uni wasn’t great quality — which I kind of expected at this price point, so that part was totally fine. Adding the uni gave the bowl more diversity of texture so it’s good to have.
The fish roe had a bit of a strange aftertaste, which took away from the experience.

Overall the bowl itself was quite plain, so I found myself adding a lot of shoyu for flavor. I also tried the egg yolk topping, but it didn’t really enhance the taste much — shoyu definitely helped more.

The grounded sesame seeds were a must-have for adding some nuttiness.

On the positive side, I really enjoyed the regular miso soup — warm, comforting, and balanced.

For me, the concept was interesting to try, but with the high price and uneven quality, it is really depends on people’s preferences to decide whether to try or not.

There was a line to go in, but don’t be discouraged. It went by very quickly. It’s definitely worth the wait! Food is fresh and amazing here. Can’t go wrong with any of the bowls. Workers were also friendly and courtesy. Definitely will be going here regularly!

I’d bookmarked this place before arriving in Honolulu. Upon reaching the restaurant, the long queue nearly made me turn back, but the moment I tasted the first bite, I knew it was worth it. While slightly pricey, you’d struggle to find such generous portions of fresh seafood rice bowls even in LA. It’s worth noting the seafood-to-rice ratio here is spot on. If you’re not averse to raw egg, I highly recommend mixing it in with soy sauce before tucking in. It was so delicious that I found myself pausing after every few bites to marvel at the flavour.

great negitoro bowl! a must try for sure for anyone who likes negitoro or sushi/chirashi for sure.

everything was good but i’d say the service is good but didn’t really match to the quality of food. kinda casual and inconsistent. some weren’t as good as others. for example one of them said “customers leaving” in japanese and she was looking for rest of employees but they were talking to themselves and ignore her.

but for me, i didn’t care too much since food is great but did notice that.

Toytoya at Ala Moana is a true standout. The seafood is incredibly fresh—clean, vibrant flavors that taste like they were caught that morning. But what really sets Toytoya apart is the Japanese hospitality. The staff embodies omotenashi beautifully: warm greetings, thoughtful service, and a genuine attentiveness that makes you feel like an honored guest from the moment you arrive.

If you’re looking for amazing freshness paired with gracious, heartfelt hospitality, Toytoya is a must‑visit. Already looking forward to going back.
