People in Monroe have this hot dog war between Vinces and Monroes best I live in willis and last year tired Vinces I didn’t like the chilli it has a real strong taste my guess is clove but I could be wrong. The root beer was great the fires and onion rings were great also but I just couldn’t get over that strong taste of something. So this time we went to Monroes best and hands down the best between the two the chilli reminds me of Klucks in ypsi that I grew up on and the root beer was also real good. The only bummer is that’s it nothing else on the menu except chips and pop but still a good stop for a chilli dog, so Monroe my vote is Monroes best

We have been going for years! Pictures do not do it justice because the buns are steamy soft so we tend to smash them as we grab them.
This place is a gem and the menu is simple. Here is what we get: 2 all the way (hot dog, chili, mustard and onion) and I get 3 chili buns “all the way” (no hot dog but has all the other goodness) and a root beer in a frosty mug!
The friendly young lady comes up to your car for your order. And, they come back within minutes with a tray of food that is placed on your window
The chili is very unique – it has a vinegary flavor which is similar to a sloppy Joe.

Won’t come back. I normally go to Vince’s, but they were closed. This place has no menu, or prices up front, just your bill after you order. And the menu consists of dogs, chips and root beer. No fries. When I ordered my almost 3 year old a hot dog with ketchup and mustard it was so overly loaded with ketchup that he could not feed himself, and I had to hold the dog and feed him. Absolutely ridiculous. For 5 dogs and a large root beer, it was $17. The dogs were meh. The service was not worth the tip I had to give before service was completed. Smh. I won’t do that again. I had to flag down another server in order to get the tray on the window taken back so I could leave. My server never came back after she got her money.

A good hot dog awaits you at Monroe’s Original Hot Dog! A very easily seen venue, from its big orange sign to the bright orange exterior! A true drive-in, everything you do, you do from your car! Lots of parking available! Food is hot, fresh and very affordable. My only knock is the hot dogs tend to be sloppily made. Other than that this place is great and I highly recommend you try Monroe’s Original Hot Dog!

Monroe’s Original kind of broke my heart a bit today. My husband loves their chili dogs. I can’t enjoy them (allergies), but I always look forward to the Better Made chips and a frosty root beer. We stopped by looking forward to our first visit of the season. The chips I got were past the date Member’s Mark chips. Were these left over from last season and they pulled them out from somewhere? They did have bbq Better Made chips within the use by date which my husband enjoyed. It probably just stings a little extra when you’ve got a lot of food restrictions in place and there’s not a lot you can enjoy and look forward to. Stale chips from Sam’s were not on that list. Hoping the next visit is back to what we remember from years past.

We had a coupon for chilli dog special, similar to a coupon we used about 1 month ago for $44 u also got a weinnie shirt. This time, you got 10 dogs and two quarts of root beer for $25 (although no price on coupon that is what girl told us). She gave us 4 diet pops. When we asked her for more pop, she just shrugged her shoulders and said “Well that’s what he told me.” We paid, didn’t argue even left her a good tip, but her attitude did not serve Monroe original hot dog stand well that day.
Vince’s root beer stand right across river on Elm near YMCA has much more selections on their menu, like burgers, fries and onion rings instead of just chips and the weiners are just as good. And, it seems the stand on Front Street was low on mustard that day, cause the 4 all the way had one drop of mustard on each that one had to scrounge around to find it to determine which kid got what. Guess the end of season for the Original they don’t restock, but Vince’s open almost all year round.
Go figure, good service = more business; bad service = u lost.

This place is so consistent. I visit once a year while I’m in town visiting and it’s exactly what I’ve been craving. Smoking hot chili dogs and ice cold root beer. Fast, friendly service.

When I stopped here I was greeted by a friendly car hop and I asked what was good and she said everything as the only have hot dogs, chips, and root beer. I ordered loaded chili dogs chips and a root beer. Everything was delicious as described. Stop and enjoy your food!
