Vacation is an outdoor dining concept by Chef Chad Gauss located next to The Food Market Columbia. We take great pride in our inclusive and positive work environment. We love seeing our staff grow into new roles, while remaining true to their passions, styles and goals. We are thrilled to have another restaurant in Howard County because the people are wonderful and the community is welcoming. We seat on a first come, first served basis. If you are planning a visit to Merriweather, please be sure to leave ample time before the show to enjoy your dining experience. We are also open post-show time.

We got the calamari to share which came with a rice vinegar sauce instead of the typical tartar, which was fun. Overall the fry on the food was super great for both the calamari and my fried fish basket.
The birria tacos were incredible, the consommé was delicious and the meat was tender. They were Mexican husband approved!
We definitely want to come back to try more stuff on the menu.
The $22 chicken skewer – these people absolutely can’t cook. Meat was cooked separately from the very spicy sauce. It literally tastes like something you attempted to make at home and failed. Miserably. The best part was the watermelon. I can’t taste anything else because my taste buds were obliterated here.
My friend said the best part of her fish basket was the tartar sauce. Fries were super overdone. She “ate grease”, and we just went to the glory days for fish baskets the other day.
First- the vibe is awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the music.
Second- Our server, D, was a great energy and excellent in telling us about the menu and his recommendations did not disappoint which leads me to…
Third- The food. We shared the fried green tomatoes and I wasn’t sure how I would like them since I have never had them before but with the sauce and the lump crab that came on top…it was delicious. I got the lobster fingers which came with garlic bread, coleslaw, AND fries. Very filling. The lobster fingers were good and so was the coleslaw. The fries were greasy, maybe from the lobster on top, so I didn’t eat those.
Fourth- The drinks. We got the Woah-se and Pier Pressure and they were both really good and I didn’t feel like they were skimping on the alcohol.
Overall, you can tell they are trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t as a new restaurant. But this might be my new regular spot!
The managers and everyone else was super friendly!
Free parking at the garage directly next to it.
Stroller friendly to enter the platform where the seating is. Not so much from the garage (but this isn’t on Vacation).
The bathrooms are nice and cool. Very clean! And for my parents, the second bathroom has a nice clean changing table inside (look for the koala sticker on the door).
NOW for the food and drinks
We had the Pina Colada Crush. If you like ginger beer, this is a good one! It’s cool, light, and refreshing.
For appetizers, we ordered the crispity, crunchity, sweet spicy, sesame, scalliony chicken wings (not bad!), the crab dip egg rolls (also not bad (I appreciate the spin on the dish!!).
For entrees, we had the ribs (delicious and super tender ). This one came with fries (that remind me of boardwalk fries), a pickle, coleslaw (I was impressed) and a sauce that tastes pretty good.
Also had the brick smashed burger (didn’t hate it didn’t love it), fries, coleslaw, and a pickle.
This was a nice spot to swing by and try. I recommend it!
I’ll be trying The Food Market next time I’m by Columbia Mall.
We arrived pretty early on a Tues and it was ample amount of seats, but as we were leaving it had gotten pretty crowded. Believe it’s first come, first serve but reservations are accept inside at True Food.
All and all, will return to check out scene on a Friday or Sat evening.
BTW, my first drink came not so full, but the second which was made by another bartender came pretty full.
