Im from out of town and last ate here Nov 2024. Up to that time everything was GREAT… Service… Food…I even recommended to some friends who became a fan of this establishment. Fast forward to present day November 2025. First thing I noticed was how long it took for me to be seated, I then noticed how they changed my menus and the imagery describing what the meals were had been replaced with a script only menu. I really used to enjoy the complimentary bean dip they provided, it’s changed as well and it’s just very basic beans.

Unsure what to get to eat from the new script only menu, I played it safe and I ordered the shredded beef tacos. They showed up and they were wrong, I got ground beef instead. The waitress took note of it and made the correction. While I was waiting I took a look at my plate and I noticed that It was chipped heavily in certain spots as if it had been dropped on the floor at some point. This is not very appealing visually. Like I said before, I really used to love this place but it has taken? a heavy nose dive for some reason. I will no longer recommend this establishment to anyone traveling to Safford. I’m saddened that I’m going to break the news to my good friends who I used to bring here from out of town.

The food was delicious and the portions met the price (really think you get more food for the price). The service was great! We had a huge party and the service was still spectacular! The atmosphere was welcoming and inviting. We’ll be back when we come back to town. The salsa was delicious!! Wish I could bring some home.

The owners daughter told me about there street tacos and absolutely amazing, tender and well seasoned! I do not regret my decision, also excellent salsa in a Mexican restaurant is the make or break to a good Mexican restaurant and it was fresh and packed full of flavor!

The green chili cheese crisp was excellent. a must try.
I ordered the taco salad which was good except the meat tasted a lil off . I don’t know if it wasn’t cooked enough or they used something else instead of ground beef.
but for the most part it was good. 4 stars

El Charro used to be our go to place with every trip to Safford. The last 3 times we’ve been it just has not been the same. Service was so incredibly slow, food was just ok. Salsa was very plain, no flavor. The burrito on my combination plate was almost smaller than my enchilada. My son’s beans looked like they had been in the warmer for way too long, dried & gross. Had to ask for napkins & silverware. Drinks were automatically brought in to go cups, as is they were out of clean dishes. Workers carrying around the plastic flatware holder around the restaurant passing out silverware. The atmosphere was definitely not the same as it used to be. You could feel how much the restaurant & service has gone downhill. You could sense that the pride of ownership is definitely not there anymore. Unfortunately will probably be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

The service here was fantastic, and I really loved the authenticity of the carne asada street tacos I ordered. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think they need to have more of a variety of sauces available for their customers – their house salsas were ok, but none of them were spicy enough for us, and I was really craving some Chalula or Valentina on those tacos.

I’m on a hunt to find the best chimichanga, and I can say with confidence, this isn’t it.

On the 13 point universal scale of chimichanga deliciousness, theirs rates a 6. It’s the biggest chimi I’ve ever seen, at over a foot long, and quite girthy. The tortilla was good, nice and crispy at the ends, but the rest of the plate was lackluster. Our food arrived quite quickly, which was shocking, and I was surprised to find the side of beans had developed a skin, and the rice was dry and crunchy. The guacamole lacked any distinguishable flavor, and the lack of pico de gallo was disappointing. Most perplexing to me was how the bean dip (included with the chips, a nice touch) was delicious, yet the beans inside and outside the chimi were so lackluster. I loved the sight of melted cheese on top of the chimi, but my guess is they use cheap ingredients, because there just wasn’t any flavor happening with the cheese or beans. And same goes for the salsas with the chips: simple, thin, bland. Some of the chips were burned and no bueno.

The overall service was pretty poor. It took forever for anyone to get our drink/food order, we never received waters, they didn’t give us any knives with our plates so we had to request them, and no one came to check on us to see how the meal was. We would’ve ordered more beers if only someone had bothered to ask.

There were plenty of employees wandering around, doing gods know what, seemingly without defined duties, failing to take care of customers. Restaurant wasn’t even half full. We very nearly walked out because we were ignored at the beginning. Our waitress was super kind, once we finally met her, but it seems like El Charro is a disorganized mess and doesn’t have clearly defined duties.

Between the food quality and the poor customer service, I cannot recommend El Charro. First impressions only happen once, and this one was pathetic.

The watress took15 minutes before anyone brought chips. Then another 10 min before she asked what we wanted to drink. Finally she came back took our order. The food came fast everything was cold. The best part of the meal was the beans. Brought us a ticket and never came back for the card. We went to the front to pay waited another 15 for anyone to come take our money. We’ll check that off of restaurants to eat at. When we got there there were not that many people there. When we left there were people standing all over the front of the restaurant waiting to be seated if they only new what they were in for.

Hadn’t been to El Charro for quite a while so thought we’d try. Didn’t have to wait for a table and we’re immediately brought chips and two different salsa and a cup of bean dip, all good flavor. Service was good but neither of us were very impressed with the food.
