Oven-to-table meeting place in the village. Hard to resist a quick cappuccino and croissant when dropping by for a sourdough boule, quiche, or to-go sandwich.
Consistent friendly, fast service.
It’s a bakery first, so noisy with oven alarms and busy back-of-house. It adds to the experience! People move in and out fast picking up to-go orders. Others linger for a chat.
Good seating options. Café-style tables for two in front bay windows (my favorite). More four-tops in the back area.
I love to support this amazing community bakery ❤️

Great tasting coffee and bread. Unfortunately, they up charge one dollar for oat milk. Get with the times people even Starbucks does not up charge for non-dairy anymore. The female employee manning the counter this morning was unfortunately very unpleasant and not very kind at all. Could not even crack a smile or say good morning. The other two gentleman manning the counter and helping were extremely friendly. Will not be coming back for coffee until the non-dairy surcharge ends. We witnessed someone put their kid on the counter with their shoes touching the counter also (gross) where they slide food across and no one said anything. There are no vegan options other than some breads. They have what otherwise would be a vegan sandwich but they put real cheese on there. You would think itwould be possible to put vegan cheese as a substitute but they do not carry it.

Bakery with some really good options. Especially liked the bacon and egg croissant with the tomato relish. It was busy but relatively quick to serve the food. Very friendly and helpful staff. A fun place to return to.

I feel so lucky to live within walking distance of this incredible bakery! They have the best bread around, and I absolutely love it here. Located right in the heart of Multnomah Village, the atmosphere is cozy, the staff is super friendly, and the food is simply amazing. If you’re ever in Multnomah Village, you’ve got to check this place out!

Breakfast sandwiches were great! Free coffee refills for dine in. The sourdough was to die for and didn’t make it home, despite taking it in a to-go bag. We ordered the frittata sandwich and the rashers English muffin.

Great atmosphere great breakfast goodies
Excellent was to start the day.
Update: it’s been over two years since we, as a family, broke bread together at a table inside a Grand Central Bakery. It was nice … felt nostalgic to dine at the blond birch table with the oversized pictures of chickens watching us … food is the same – well crafted, satisfying and rich but they don’t have the tray of butter and home-made jam out, and only one container of cream ( no 2%, oat, soy ) available. Prices have gone up min 25%. So the same but restrained feeling.
Glad they made it thru the pandemic.
Updated Update: after 16 years still the best artisan bread and hearty breakfast treats in the city. It is expensive with all hot drinks $4 and up and all small treats $4 and up and loaves of bread $5 and up … so it’s a $40 simple breakfast for a family of 4. But it is delish.

Grand Central is a super high-quality bakery. My wife has their cookbook but we had never visited in person. We arrived about 10:00 on a Thursday morning, and it was busy! People were lined up waiting for a table to open up. We didn’t have time to wait, so we bought some pizza dough and chicken pot pies to take home.

It’s Fall, and the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin is here and fabulous. What do you get when you start every morning with the freshest ingredients? Perfectly delicious Grand Central baked goods and beverages, and the best-tasting breakfasts and lunches. The only thing that would be better would be a book of their yummy recipes. Oh, wait, they sell that, too!

Grand Central is great and love the location in this neighborhood. Atmosphere and service is nothing to gloat about, but I remember one particular time a host was quite friendly and pleasant to do business with.
Of course, GCB shines in what they offer and it’s the best chain in town for pastries, meals (my fav. is the Blue Ribbon), and bread!
Update: new staff, reduced by one star for consistent poor customer service at the counter.

This place was outrageously delicious. I was in heaven the moment I saw the dessert presentation. I felt like I was a kid in a candy store and I couldn’t select what I wanted. I finally narrowed it down to the Bread Pudding and oh my!!!! They know how to make a delicious one. Normally it is overly moist, however this one had a crisp top and the inside wasn’t overly moist. Delicious…..
