Camino Review – Casual Mexican Dining in Bloomfield
Reviews
The highlight for us were the speciality drinks and margaritas which were so tasty and also beautiful. A lot of options as well, featuring mezcal and flavors like tamarind. The staff were very attentive to refilling !
The servers were also extremely kind, although the timing of appetizers and entrees for us was a bit off. Cheese dip and guacamole were very delicious, and enjoyed the fajitas and flautas. Admit this is just my taste, but it wasn’t spicy at all, and I prefer spicier. Overall a good experience!
The atmosphere was really good. They have decent guacamole and queso, but the salsa was seriously lacking in my opinion (ketchup-esque). I wasn’t a huge fan of the cocktails, but they’re decent. They have some creative things on the menu, but the execution could be improved (cocktails needed rebalancing in my opinion).
I’m excited about this spot; definitely worth checking out!
For context: I had been living in Southern California for a few years prior to moving to Pittsburgh, and my ex girlfriend’s family was from Mexico. When we moved to Pittsburgh we were frustrated by the lack of Mexican food options, but also for how much Mexican restaurants were overcharging for food here.
Now this place shows up, holds itself to the same high standards you’d expect a nice sit-down-and-eat Mexican restaurant with one big surprise: they actually charge fair and reasonable prices. It’s a miracle and if anything, I almost feel somewhat guilty that I didn’t pay more for what I got, so I’m definitely increasing the tips on future orders.
As nice as it looked inside, I didn’t dine in tonight, as I was just picking up a to-go order to try it out. I ordered the chicken fajitas for $16 and was shocked when I saw them bring out this huge bag, and even more surprised when there was actual weight to the bag. They aren’t messing around with portions here, and I ended up with leftovers for tomorrow, which is awesome.
The food itself was great. What I ordered was definitely more Tex Mex style Mexican food for the American palette, but I was never pretentious enough to care about “authenticity” in cuisine if the food is good… and it was great! I will definitely be back and this would honestly be a good place to dine with friends and try the drinks, too!
Service was good, super nice server. Drinks are good, lots of ice but flavor was good.
Atmosphere is super cute! Very nice and clean place.
I have better Mexican places but would come again for a happy hour.
