Magic indeed! The hours posted showed they closed at 9:00 p.m., but apparently that was their summer hours. The hours have since been updated to show their winter closing time of 8:00 p.m. I strolled in right at 8:00 p.m. not knowing they had already closed. They were more than accommodating serving up a delicious meal. I was very thankful after making the 20-minute drive from Bozeman on a cold winter night. My belly was warmed by warm bread and juicy steak. The character, the service, and the atmosphere make this a destination worthwhile.
Enjoy the Magic!

When you drive up, it looks like an old hunting lodge, and the theme carries into the restaurant. The menu is very outdated as are the presentation of the food. What is unique is that all of the dishes include a salad or bay shrimp cocktail and a small scoop of ice cream. The service is friendly but not well trained. We had heard good things about this place and decided to try it out for my birthday… what a disappointment! Our experience began with being told we could not drink the wine we brought. This is the first time a restaurant did know what a corkage fee was. We asked for the wine list, and upon review, the selection is limited and way overpriced. The markup was two to ten times the cost of the bottle. We picked a bottle to pair with our dinner… it was low quality compared to the old vintage we had brought with us. I would gladly have paid the cost of this bottle as a fee to enjoy our own. The food that followed was just as poorly executed. The escargo in mushroom caps were flavorless and drowned in butter while the mussels were dead on arrival and were more like jerky. We did like the homemade bread and the steak and the ice cream. For the money we paid there are many better restaurants in bozeman which is 20 minutes to the east. As a resteraunteur I hate leaving bad reviews of family owned establishments, but there is a lot of room for improvement here.

Very Montana kind of place — rustic, a little remote, and fully committed to big steaks. I ordered the ribeye and it came out perfectly cooked, rich, and unapologetically hearty. Portions are generous, pacing is slow, and nobody’s in a rush. Feels like dinner is the main event here.

I’ve heard about this restaurant for four years, and finally had the opportunity to try it. The juice was well worth the squeeze. I had the Prime rib with the twice baked potato, The steak was cooked perfectly with great flavour, and the Ajou was a nice touch. Horseradish was the hottest I’ve ever had be careful. I normally don’t eat salads, but this one was exceptional. Ice cream was also a nice bonus. Thank you!

We have heard about this place for several years, but hadn’t made the trip down until last night. This place must only still be open because of the great moose head on the wall!
The best thing about our meal was the bread and butter and our server. She was fantastic! Even though she was quite busy being the bartender, she was totally on top of taking care of us. I ordered the prime rib and it was underwhelming, to say the least. My husband ordered the chicken cooked teriyaki style and they completely forgot the teriyaki. The twice baked potato might have been good if it didn’t have so much of their “famous” seasoning on it. Oh and the seasoning, by the way, is just a bunch of MSG mixed with salt and pepper. Everyone’s food tasted exactly the same, “chargrilled” LOM MSG seasoning. Totally disappointing. I hate to say it, but that chain steak restaurant that opened in town would even be a better choice and we would never even eat there. Needless to say, we won’t be eating at LOM again and surely won’t be recommending it to anyone as a choice for dinner. The last thing I’d like share would be that even though you pay $65 for prime rib that is at least 6oz of fat and gristle, they will charge you a $3.33 fee if you use your credit/debit card. Ha! Ending on a good note, the mounts in the bar area were pretty fun to chat about. :

This place came highly recommended by a few locals. We decided to try it out on our way through town. We all got the same thing. 12oz steak medium rare, twice baked potato, salad, bread, and ice cream. Everything was absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting an awesome steak diner! Also if you have a chance sit at the bar and check out all the wild game animals on the walls. Supper cool!

Where to begin. We have been going there for years and sad to say with in the last year things have really hit rock bottom. The last few times we have tried our luck the food (tenderloin mainly but every steak we have tried) is either burnt or raw. The waitresses are awesome but the cooks suck! I am not sure the owners care enough to fix the problem…

Update for recent visit April 2024
Service in the dining room was disappointing. Not busy when we arrived for early dinner, but service was rushed. Tried to catch attention of our server three times and eventually gave up. Probably servicing bar side as well though. Spent over $350 for 3 people, and the food was mostly worth it. Breaded prawns were incredible, but the steak with it had a strip of grissle through it. Alaskan King Crab was also way too salty. Happy to pay market price for access to great seafood, just expected it to taste better. Will keep going back, but likely going to bar side.
Some times, the old ways are the best ways. They know how to do a steak. The escargot is interesting (canned from a large world-wide food provider) and stuffed in a mushroom. Always get the mussels with garlic butter. I like the filet mignon, but the ribeye is good as well. Open seating at the bar (may 8-10 seats) but would call ahead just in case. They tend to book the dining room first, then will book all the tables in the bar as well. They serve the same menu. Owners are great, and you are bound to make some friends.

Visiting of Texas… Miss Beth and Jay were very welcoming, the entire staff was amazing. And the steak… WOW!!! Absolutely fantastic! If you are in Montana you have to put this place on a must do list. 10 out of 10. Normally I would fight anyone who says this, but this place was better than anywhere in Texas… sorry folks it’s true.
