I wanted to reach out regarding my visit to The Candied Yam on Saturday the 17th. Everything tasted great; however, I unfortunately became ill shortly after arriving home.
The only item I ate that the rest of my party did not was the tartar sauce at the end of the buffet. I noticed it wasn’t kept on ice and wanted to bring this to your attention. I’ll definitely be skipping the tartar sauce in the future unless it’s properly chilled! I’m not looking to place blame; I just thought this feedback might help prevent others from having the same seven-day bad experience.

The food is great. Presentation is amazing. Taste is on point but the portions of the sides in the take out trays only filled the containers a third of the way full. I was absolutely shocked opening our food trays and looking at the amount of the sides in the trays. They can do better. I don’t know if this was because it Sunday and they were trying to stretch sides due to their buffet but we never got skimpy sides like this before. Would have gave an 4 out of 5 eating if sides at least filled the sides part of the takeout tray.

I dined at the restaurant on 3/7/2026 with family. There were 5 ppl in my group. The food was subpar, the service was horrific! We opted for the buffet which was $25.99 pp. My son chose to order pork chops. The buffet was a generic & bland. I don’t know how any soul food restaurant could mess up fried chicken. Everything was overly salty. The cabbage was greasy & the Mac n cheese was hard from sitting out. Sadly we ordered a salad with the buffet that we did not receive until dinner was over. We also ordered teas & sodas which did not arrive until towards the end of our meal. We had to “BEG” to get our check (literally) it took 25 mins for the check to arrive.
We were also charged $32 for a tip (the bill stated we were being charged for gratuity for over 6 ppl…GO Figure (remember I stated we had 5 ppl with us). We were also overcharged for an additional buffet. The remedy was remove the $24.99 but still pay the $32 tip. Service was AWFUl. Also why are children charged $24.99 for a buffet? There were two children in my group. We paid $179 for 4 ppl to eat at a buffet & one order of pork chops which was left on the table for the garbage.
Long story short we drove 2 hrs to eat at this restaurant! Definitely a WASTE of time & gas! Do yourself a favor and choose somewhere else to eat. Clearly this restaurant has become so popular management has opted to “cut corners” instead of continuing a legacy of good food. We will NOT be returning.

OMG!!! That dinner was one of the best soul food meals I have ever had!! Fried chicken was crispy and delicious, candied yams seasoned to perfection and sweet, and the Mac and cheese was great! The bread pudding was off the charts. Some of the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Atmosphere was good and clean. They even played smooth jazz that reminded me of the early 2000s. Kam was our waiter, he was courteous, funny, and was a delight. After our meal I did a little happy shimmy. 10/10!

The food was on point! We got to try a lot of different dishes and weren’t disappointed.
The smothered pork chops, ribs, fried fish, baked and fried chicken, collards, string beans, mac & cheese, mash potatoes and the candied yams (my favorite of the sides)…were all hitting! We had Kiesha waiting on us and she made our visit even more pleasurable.
It’s definitely worth stopping in if you’re in the area!

We visited this location while in Salisbury. We had 3 meals and 3 deserts.
– Salmon, cabbage, Yams & bread pudding. The Salmon has a sweet bourbon sauce that was flavorful and made the salmon moist. The cabbage was seasoned well and had a good crunch to it. The Yams were Supreme. They weren’t too sweet and doesn’t have marshmallows on them. The bread pudding was moist and had a good crunch.
– Ribs, Yams, sweet potato fries & peach Cobbler. The ribs fell off the bone they were so tender. The bbq sauce was good. The peach Cobbler was more peach than crust and came with vanilla ice cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon. This was the perfect combination.
– Turkey Wings, Rice, Greens & Cinnamon Swirl Cheesecake. The turkey also fell off the bones. The gravy was lightly seasoned and mixed well with the rice. The greens were seasoned with pork but did not have that overwhelming flavor of pork…so good. I could melt into heaven with the cinnamon swirl cheesecake. It was very light and didn’t weigh heavy in my stomach (stole a piece from hubby).
The atmosphere was welcoming and the server Calvin was awesome! He gave us great suggestions. All of this was under $100! This will now be our go to place when we visit my son.

Our first time there. The restaurant was super clean. Our waiter, Chris, was great! Excellent people skills, and wonderful waiter. The rolls at the beginning were DELICIOUS! I could have eaten ten of them! I ordered the crab imperial, and, it was delicious, great flavor, plenty of white, lump crab meat and a big portion (enough for two to split). I got the greens and candied yams, and both were delicious! My husband got the flounder and shrimp, both broiled, he said it was delicious also! He got the mac & cheese and green beans and said both were great! We will DEFINITELY return to the Candied Yam. We were very pleased. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

It was our first time there, my daughter took me for my birthday! The crab dip was along with the toasted chips that came with it! I got the turkey wings and they were very good. The yams I could eat all by themselves. Hope to see you soon!

This Southern Restaurant provides great food at very fair prices. The rolls they provide the table are warm and soft. And the fried chicken had the perfectly fried batter, not too heavy, and seasoned nicely.
