Mad Capper Saloon & Eatery, in Stillwater, MN, is the area’s leading restaurant serving Bayport, Hudson, Stillwater, St. Croix Valley and surrounding areas since 1979. In September of 2021 the Jespersen family took over ownership and refreshed the interior and the menu. The menu features some nods to the original Capper with big sandwiches and the MC burger plus new items like shareable small plates and pasta made fresh daily. We can’t wait for you to be our guest.

At the Mad Capper, we went in for some drinks and food. The drinks were fun and there were many options. We tried the Classic Cheeseburger there and the Burrata Crostini. The cheeseburger was decent and the appetizer was tasty, but not super filling. Additionally, they had an oreo cheesecake that we had to try. It was an okay dessert, but nothing to write home about.

Went here for lunch on a Wednesday around noon. Got sat immediately. We tried the Cowboy Burger and the Benedict Burger and they were both terrific. It was easy to tell they used high quality ingredients, especially the beef. Got them both cooked medium and they were cooked to perfection, still juicy and tender. The Parmesan fries were delicious as well and worth the extra dough. They have a beautiful fully stocked bar and offer mocktails and N/A beer as well as the usuals. The atmosphere is very cool, according to the owner it used to be a boxing gym back in the 1920s. I highly recommend a stop in for some good food and a great atmosphere when you are in Stillwater.

We had an unfortunate experience today. This restaurant was recommended by a local. We sat at the bar and had terrible service. Paige was the only bartender. The restaurant was by no means packed. Multiple tables and bar availability. It took quite awhile to get drinks, we ordered our meals which took 45 minutes for pancakes and avocado toast. When the food came out, it was the wrong meal. We requested not to have it reordered due to the extra long wait time. We were then told we could keep the wrong order if we want to try it. We asked Paige, the bartender what was in the meal. She proceeded to ignore the question and swiftly tokk the meal away from us and she gave us attitude. It took multiple requests for an extra plate to split our meal. Long wait times for drink replenishing. And poor behavior from the bartender. I felt bad for the hostess/bars back that was trying to help the bartender. On multiple occasions the bartender was quite rude to them. Overall poor experience. I couldn’t even say the pancakes were okay, took awhile to get utensils/dishes so they were cold

We visited Stillwater for 4th of July weekend. We went to mad capper an hour before their early closing time. Our waitress told us that the kitchen was upset about having to work on 4th of July. My husband ordered the walleye. He said it seemed mushy and maybe microwaved and cooked darker on one side. My pasta was very good. Or beer and margaritas were very good. One of the kitchen cooks kept coming out into the hallway area by the kitchen and looking at the patrons with annoyance it seemed. The environment was loud ,fun and lively. It was fun sitting by the windows and seeing all the people walk by.

I’ll start by saying that the interior was cool. We were there at 5:00 and the only people in the bar was one person sitting on a bar stool and a few workers.
The food was overpriced and not good. We ordered a basket of parmesan fries and they were the worst fries I have ever had as they had the texture of cardboard and were doused with cheap parmesan cheese. I think they were from yesterdays batch…..
We also ordered the 3 slider special. They were okay, but for the overcooked ounce or two of meat used, they definitely weren’t worth $15 and wouldn’t even been a value at $10. We also ordered the onion rings. Those would have been good but were left in the fryer for too long. Must have been because they were soooo busy
The beer selection also isn’t the greatest. One beer tasted like the lines hadn’t been cleaned and the other was flat. Both were hazy IPA’s.
The bill came and I nearly choked on my beer.
If this establishment REALLY wants to stay in business they should up their game.
Will we be back? NOPE.

We were on a girl’s trip from Iowa, and we absolutely loved this restaurant!! The service by Laurie was fabulous & the food was delicious! We will return & stay closer to this cute town, especially because of our experience at this little gem! ❤️

We went for the snow sculpture contest, and decided to stop in here for the Denmark meatball and gnocchi soup. We also shared the pesto gnocchi with burrata cheese. We each had a beverage of choice and it was absolutely delicious. The next time we visit Stillwater we would definitely recommend this place as it has something on the menu for everyone. The staff are great. Food was wonderful, and the specialty suit for the occasion was particularly delicious on the 14° day that we visited.

With a name like mad capper saloon you wouldn’t expect the menu to be so diverse. You think of a saloon, and you think burgers and fries, you know your typical bar food. But their menu is not your ordinary bar for food. They make very good drinks as well.
Service was great, staff is friendly. Received prompt service food was excellent. Waitress knew the menu very well and I asked her recommendation. After a few questions, she recommended an entree. It sounded delicious, so I ordered it and it was fantastic. Sime of their menu changes with the seasons to incorporate fresher food. Will visit again for sure.

We had our wedding reception here for our smaller intimate wedding of 50 ppl and it was everything we wanted and more! Mandee is amazing and so easy to work with, she basically assumed the roll of whatever we needed and did it flawlessly! The bar and wait staff were awesome and the drinks were stronggg which is not a bad thing haha! I can’t even tell you how many people told us that this was the best wedding food they’ve ever had! We had the Steak Medallions, Cajun Chicken Alfredo, and the Gnocchi Burrata Pasta and it was all amazing 12/10! Our appetizers were also to die for, especially the duck wontons!
All in all, if you’re considering Mad Capper for a chill and moody private event or reception DO IT! It was exactly what we wanted and we are so happy we chose to do it there!

I love the building and everything about the atmosphere. The food however was severely lacking, the flavor did not match the plating. I had the chicken and waffles which were very bland… No flavor to the waffles or breading on the chicken the spicy orange glaze had no heat whatsoever until my very last bite. Daughter had chicken strips and fries for the price I was hoping they were hand breaded. Certainly not. Last but not least wife got the mush and Swiss asked for it well done which usually she wouldn’t do but she’s pg, ended up getting a medium rare. The server Chelsea I believe her name was did comp the burger from the bill luckily and gave us the I put it in as well done but honestly I don’t believe her lol took forever to get our bill plus the other waitress was the one who asked if we needed our table cleared and any boxes, we addressed our complaints to her she disappeared in the back to I’m assuming to get our waitress who was smoking… Overrall pretty bad experience. Next time we’re in Stillwater we will keep walking by. P.s. ridiculously expensive
