La vera Italia. Voor zijn wisselende kaart is het team van Otium constant op zoek naar Italiaanse topproducten. Omdat een spaghetti carbonara moet smaken als die van la mamma, en omdat alles gemaakt moet worden met het hart. Hier eet je rijkelijk, in alle betekenissen van het woord. Good food at a reasonable price. The vegetarian dishes outshined the meat options, and the pappardelle with wild boar ragout was a bit underwhelming — the pasta was quite stiff and the ragout drier and less tender than expected. The tiramisu, however, was divine. Despite having a reservation, we were asked to wait in the bar area for about 15 minutes before being seated. The room we sat in was extremely loud even without music, so the acoustics could definitely be improved. Staff were friendly, though some lacked experience and the soft, attentive touch you’d hope for. Overall, I would recommend it, but in a city like Ghent with so many great options, I might not come back soon.

We recently dined at Otium and was thoroughly impressed by both the exquisite cuisine and the impeccable service. The menu showcased a variety of innovative dishes, blending bold flavours and beautiful presentations. The wine manu is also very wide with tasty Italian wines. We chose the 4 course meat menu and fish menu, and both were very delicious and presented in chique plates. The attentive and knowledgeable staff ensured that our meal was a memorable one, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring our satisfaction. We felt like we were on holiday in Italy. I recommend this place for a fantastic dining experience. We are looking forward to coming to Ghent again to visit this wonderful restaurant. by the way: send our compliments to the chef, please!

This place is full of contradictions. We had the fish and meat menus. The food is presented beautifully which makes you expect an explosion of flavour. But instead, the food was bland, lacking flavour, the different sauces not fitting and not really adding anything on the fish/meat. The desserts were good, the best part of the menu.
We went in early, in the beginning the service was as bland as the food, the person was not very friendly or interested to be there. Later on (I expect) the owner and teenage son came to serve and they were very warm and friendly.

My husband has a fish menu: pasta with baby octopus & anchovies. The octopus is not a fresh one, instead it’s like the preserved salty dry squid, way too salty and not lost its tenderness. But the burnt anchovies is excellent. Also the pasta is extremely salty! Have to drink a lot of water!
