The food was pretty good. I would recommend only getting the vegetarian tray and don’t add any meat because the price gets expensive very fast. It was very filling and the people were pretty nice. However, the service was a little bit weird where our table sat all the servers stood at the bar and kind of stared in our direction. Additionally, we got different people for every aspect of our meal and we probably dealt with 4 to 5 people during the course of our meal. One person gave us water. Another one took our order another one brought the food another one checked in then the original waiter came back and you weren’t really sure who was waiting on your table. Even different person bringing bread .

Delicious Ethiopian vegetable based dining experience with great service. This was our first Ethiopian meal and it was incredible with so many unique flavors.
It is a very simple menu – the vegetarian feast, a variety of aromatic plant based stews eaten with teff injera. The teff injera flatbread was fresh and warm, perfect for scooping up all of the vegetables and meats. They were perfectly sliced and I appreciated how many different flavors there were. The lentils and cabbage were especially good. However, meat has to be ordered separately, and came in a bit smaller portions. We got 3 meat dishes, doro wat (spicy chicken), yebeg alecha (lamb), and zilzil wat (spicy beef). The chicken was the best – flavorful with the perfect amount of spice and fall off the bone tender. The lamb was tender, but a little too fatty for our liking. The beef was a bit too salty. Finally we ordered the crème brûlée for dessert, which was so smooth and rich.
Another thing we loved was that the food wasn’t too heavy – a great balance of protein and fiber, and as they mentioned on the menu limited fats. The dishes were light and rich with flavor at the same time.
The service was amazing, we were constantly checked up on to get more refills of bread and vegetables. They even brought out warm towels to clean our hands. Everything was explained to us since it was our first time. The food came out very quickly and we had no wait at all to get a table. The ambience and decorations were nice as well. Overall, a wonderful vegetable focused restaurant with unique flavors and exceptional service.

The Blue Nile Ethiopian Restaurant in Ann Arbor is an absolute gem. We came for dinner and left completely blown away, not just by the food, but by the incredible service. The waitstaff was fantastic (and I mean FANTASTIC). Huge shoutout to our waiter Promise (yes, his name really is Promise, and he lived up to it) and Netsi, who both went above and beyond to make sure our table was cared for. Warm towels before the meal, constant check-ins, and hospitality that felt Michelin-level, it honestly made the night unforgettable.

The food itself was just as amazing. The dining style is authentic Ethiopian, big trays lined with fresh injera (that soft, spongy bread that they just keep bringing out) topped with colorful vegetarian dishes: lentils, greens, cabbage, split peas, potatoes, and more. Everything was full of flavor, rich with spices but still incredibly light and fresh. In the center of our table we ordered some meat dishes, and wow- the chicken and beef literally fell off the bone, tender and perfectly seasoned. My favorite was the stewed beef, slow-cooked until it melted in your mouth.

One of the best surprises was how healthy everything was. Ethiopian food is naturally low in fat, high in protein and carbs, and packed with flavor, which is seriously perfect fuel after a workout. You leave feeling full, satisfied, but not heavy. This is hands down going to be my go-to spot post-gym.

Between the incredible service, healthy yet filling food, and the family-style experience of sharing everything together, Blue Nile easily deserves more than five stars. If you’re in Ann Arbor, don’t just eat here, experience it.

I’ve been here a few times and it’s always delicious . One dinner plate is enough for three people, the flavors are rich and balanced, not just salty or spicy. Highly recommend the almond cake — I’m obsessed with it, always find room for it no matter how full I am. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is calm and quiet, perfect for conversations

While the service and food are delicious this place is way too expensive to enjoy more than once a year. You are required to order a $22 veggie platter for each person, like a buffet, but then you get only ONE platter. In our time dining we only refilled two of the dishes on the platter. So for two people with two small cups of tea (no refills), and one dessert plus tip we spent $94. I think one veggie platter is all we ate between the two of us and we should not be charged for two of them. I get they need to make money but we will not be returning any time soon.

Simply amazing. I first visited this restaurant 10 years ago with my family for graduation and remembered it being outstanding in every way—the food, the service, the atmosphere, and how welcomed we felt. You truly can’t beat it, especially at their price point.

Came back a decade later, and it hasn’t changed a bit. In a market as tough as AA, especially after COVID, the fact that this place has thrived for decades is a true testament to their quality, the way they run their business, and the owners’ vision. God bless your family!

I absolutely love the Blue Nile. I am plant based and this is the only restaurant within a 50 mile radius where I have more than 3 options to choose from, lol
I’ve been here multiple times, but decided to bring My friend here for his birthday for a different experience.
He loved the decor as well as the food. He tried to use his fork once, but I took it from here because I wanted him to receive the full experience of eating with our hands.
The servers are so nice and the bathroom is always clean.
My friend also got a free meal.

I live 45min away from Ann Arbor, but it’s always worth the drive.

My family and I have enjoyed the Blue Nile for 40 years. The feast is my yearly birthday meal, and pretty much for all my special occasions. Zil zil wat is a MUST try. Also, the lemon sorbet and spiced tea are family favorites. We buy the loose tea in bulk to take home as well. It’s never too busy. My favorite place to eat by a very long mile ❤️!
