I have always been a fan of this location and generally it’s adequate. However, the last couple of times I’ve gone in you can tell the quality has diminished tremendously, but the prices have not gone down to match. On this trip I ordered turkey and sausage with a side of green beans. The turkey was pretty good, but the sausage literally was downright gross. In fact, it was not edible. I have uploaded some pictures to show you what I’m talking about. So I would say going to this dickies barbecue is kind of a 50-50 shot right now. If you walk in on a good day, you may get some fresh food and a good meal But on an off day or when they are serving meats that have sat for much too long and dried out and become pretty disgusting then you’re not gonna be very happy. I will go back and see if things are better or have declined even more. It’s just something to consider when you go there. In general, the condition of the restaurant has declined as well. They’re ceiling tiles missing and it’s just not kept up very well.

TLDR: Kind people, but worst BBQ I’ve ever had. Go anywhere else.

This is my very first negative Google review but it has to be done. Get your BBQ literally ANYWHERE else, even other dickies locations. I grew up eating Dickie’s and I’ve always enjoyed it. But not THIS Dickie’s.

I ordered food from here about 6 months ago and it wasn’t that good but it was tolerable. Well, I ordered a bigger order for Christmas Eve for my family of 4 as I had gotten the flu and couldn’t cook, and it was so disgusting that none of us could hardly eat most of it. I got a pound of brisket, a pound of pulled pork, 1/2 lb of chicken, fried okra, potato salad, green beans, baked beans, and potato casserole. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, had this unidentifiable underlying flavor that was not pleasant. The meat, the sides…they all had this same stale/old/dirty/??? flavor and it was… unappetizing to say the least. I am not picky when it comes to smoked or grilled meat, but I had to straight up spit out the chicken, the pork, AND the green beans. My body refused to swallow it. The brisket was so dry that some bites tasted like jerky, but I was so hungry after not eating for several days from the flu that I managed to get it down smothered in BBQ sauce. My Grami spit hers out though. Even the smell of it on the plates after the fact made me queezy because you could smell that underlying flavor. Worst $100 I’ve ever spent on food. After talking to my Grami, who’s been in the area a lot longer than me, she said that this has been the worst Dickie’s around for years now. Last time I’ll ever get food from this location. I’d rather drive to the other side of town and spend twice as much for Hutchins. Stay away.

My dog loved it, though.

I loved my time here! The people working the counter were very patient while we decided what we wanted and were very helpful! When they were out of something for my order, they let me know and made a suggestion for an alternative that ended up tasting amazing!

Love the vibe, love the staff—they’re always on point. But the food? Yikes.

I’ve eaten here plenty of times and never had an issue, but today? Total letdown. My husband always jokes that it’s the fast food of BBQ spots… well, today it didn’t even make the drive-thru grade.

The food came out looking yellow and not in a smoky, slow-cooked kind of way, but like it had been sitting in a pan of stale oven water all day. No flavor, just soggy and strange. A $30 plate straight to the trash. Definitely not the kind of saucy I signed up for.

Dickey’s Barbecue is fantastic! The food is smoky, flavorful, and cooked perfectly every time. The portions are generous, and the sides are just as good as the main dishes. The staff are friendly, helpful, and make the whole experience enjoyable. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout. If you love classic barbecue done right, Dickey’s is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We go to Dickey’s on occasion because we like the okra so much. We ordered food on a Sunday night at 6:30 through the website and went to pickup the order, only to be told that they were out of okra. I wish I could have canceled the whole order at that point, but went ahead with a substitute. The main issue for the negative review here, besides the okra being out, was the mac and cheese was ice cold. Really wonder how long it had been sitting out to be that cold. I’ve never experienced anything close to that. The brisket potato was pretty good. Overall, just an underwhelming experience.

Family pack is good deal. Recently opened so staff still learning but helpful and friendly. Came back about a year later for lunch and the food was amazing. This is by far the best Dickey’s Barbecue Pit I’ve ever been to. The staff that work here is exceptionally funny helpful and makes you feel very comfortable. I had sausage and pork ribs as well as waffle fries and potato salad as sides. This meal was fantastic. Things can change.

4/3/23 Had lunch there today and the sausages were all cold. Fries were over cooked but I like it that way. A lot of people don’t. At the end of the meal I went to get some ice cream while the server was watching me. Instead of eating a cone I just wanted to put some ice cream in my cup of soda. The machine just leaked some kind of gross liquid as it wasn’t turned on. Let me repeat, the staff saw me do this and didn’t warn me. Never going back again. Well I went back to give it a try. The food was cold and the sausages tasted like sawdust. Corner extent fact is they give you 10% off if you pay with cash.

To the owner. I don’t appreciate you making stuff up regarding my personality. I posted truth.

It is no secret that Dickeys is the McDonalds of BBQ… so to go into a dickeys expecting great bbq is just setting your expectations way too high. That being said I got about what I expected, a dry chopped beef sandwich, undercooked fries and okra and excellent customer service.

Update: here I am 10 months later giving this place another shot… ( this time a 2 meat plate) Big ol chunks of super dry Brisket, old, cold, discolored sausage… see pics… fryer is broken so no update on the fries and okra, but the green beans were decent and the Mac and cheese was fine. Pretty sure I won’t be back.

This Dickey’s Barbecue Pit restaurant located in McKinney, Texas was good. The location was convenient. The employees were helpful. They have plenty of parking. The food tasted good. We got the the three meat platter with two sides (potato salad and fried okra). The bathrooms were clean. The dining room is small. There is nothing wrong with this location but we have been to other locations that are better.
