I came here with coworkers and was quite excited to try this restaurant based on the hype. Many claim this is one of the best restaurants in Salt Lake City. I was very disappointed. The service was outstanding – our waiter was very attentive. My favorite part of the meal was my wine. I found most of the food to be bland – honestly – the photos are exactly what you should expect. We had the antipasto, the pasta sampler and I had the special that night which was a sea bass dish. I enjoyed the meatball portion of the antipasto dish and that is where my enjoyment ends. I’ve been to several high-end Italian restaurants and, I am sorry to say, all have had better food. My colleagues echoed their disappointment. While I would recommend this place based on their service, I cannot based on their food.

Finally came to Valter’s. Everyone I had spoken to has spoken very highly of this restaurant and I have looked forward to coming for a fine dining experience. We had a reservation and were able to be seated right away, there was only two of us. I believe being seated in the right area is key to the experience. We unfortunately were sat at a small table sandwiched between other tables. It took away from the experience as all I could hear was conversations at the other tables. With that said, the decor and ambiance was nice overall.

Our favorite part of our meal was the bread and dip they bring at the beginning. The rest of the meal was rather underwhelming. We got the salad sampler and pasta sampler for appetizers. Due to us being sandwiched between tables, their table side plating was done a few tables away. Even our bottle of wine had to be stored far away from the table. Both samplers were a 4 out of 10 at best. Then we had the lasagna and the scallopine di dish which had a pork loin, potatoes, and broccoli in a white sauce. The lasagna was maybe 5 out of 10 and the scallopine an 8 out of ten. We had creme brulee for dessert, that was good.

Our server was fantastic, but overall I just don’t see the whole experience worth the money. I don’t see myself coming back as I believe there are better Italian options for way less money.

Came here to celebrate our anniversary. We booked a reservation for 5:30 pm when it opened and was promptly seated but that’s where the promptness ended. The restaurant is beautiful but chaotic with all the table side plating and pans being rushed around. The bruschetta starter was a nice starter but then we were left twiddling our thumbs for a good 10 minutes before even getting the food menus. Then we watched as our server was making a salad for one table or plating a pasta dish at another table before she even got our orders in. Mind you we had our toddler with us so we figured they would want to get our orders quickly. We ordered an entree for each of and shared a soup.

The soup arrived at 6:33 where they do a show of plating it table side. I can do without the theatrics when I’m hungry please and thank you. The soup was delicious with the mushrooms and beans even our daughter enjoyed it. Then we waited another 30 minutes for our entrees and only after I had to ask the server why it was taking so long. Our daughter was getting antsy getting close to her bedtime. I did notice what appeared to be my entree in the window by itself for awhile. The entrees didn’t arrive until 7:08 during which time my husband and daughter killed a basket and a half of bread. Thank goodness for the bread I guess. During that time many tables that came when we did finished and left.

Of course because it had been sitting out my salmon was cold and I could barely swallow the bite. The manager did quickly get a hot entree to me with minutes. During that time I tried my husband’s ravioli gnocchi sampler which was also lukewarm despite the show of bringing it out in pans and plated table side. I picked the restaurant and was embarrassed that it was such a horrible experience for our anniversary. There’s no excuse for us getting out entrees out at past 7 when our reservation was at 530 with a toddler and with us being ready to order within minutes. Yes, the manager comped an entree and they brought out a biscotti with a candle but it doesn’t take away from the fact that our special dinner was essentially ruined by extremely slow service, high prices and mediocre food. $38 for 4 lukewarm raviolis and gnocchi is robbery. Fine dining in SLC in general has been a huge letdown and this is one prime example.

Can’t wait to return! Everything from the service from our beautiful waitress Kaitlyn to the hot bread with the garlic oil to the food everything was delicious. I want to try their lasagna and other night specials. Everything is served table side and portions are big enough to share. Make sure to reserve or you risk not getting in. A+ in my book

Bucket-list restaurant! Scrumptious Italian food, tableside service, and a bustling and welcoming Italian vibe that permeates through the walls. Valter, set out to create an Italian family experience 40 years ago and the staff have continued his legacy in every detail and treat every customer as family, just as he did. Highly recommend the tables side service for the Caesar & pasta specials of the night. Finish the evening with their Lemon & Fresh Honey Gelato – it is an explosion for your senses and light enough you won’t regret it after indulging on their handmade pastas & bread.
Truly, a feast for the pallet! Al bacio!!

Valter’s Osteria is simple and elegant, though nothing outstanding. The ambiance works, refined and comfortable.

Service was below expectation for this price range. Basic tasks like order accuracy and the server’s presence was lacking, the Spanish staff for other tables were present with their tables. Staff for us was mimicking politeness and was not fully present. (Lacking awareness , focus and attentiveness.

Food had balanced flavors but poor texture. The pasta was soft and overcooked, and the sausage in the carbonara was burned to the point of being inedible (thankfully removed from the bill).

The pistachio “gelato” had great flavor but the texture was closer to ice cream.

Overall, solid flavors and presentation, but execution and service need refinement. I’d return in a few years if those improve.

The food was incredible—no wonder this place has such a great reputation. We were pleasantly surprised by the generous complimentary offerings: bruschetta, house bread with dip, and even hot chocolate sauce with biscotti at the end.
We ordered the Caesar salad, pasta sampler, pollo della casa, and a seasonal salmon dish. For dessert, we had a seasonal special: fresh peaches with gelato, topped with lemon, honey, and sea salt. It was definitely the star of the show.

The service wonderful. Sergio was warm and attentive.

My only complaint is that the tables were very close together, which made it hard to have a private conversation. It was easy to hear our neighboring tables conversations which we didn’t love.

Loved the food! We will be back.

One of (if not the best) dining experiences I’ve ever had! I got the 3 course meal (which was actually like 5) and was blown away by the service, the food, and the atmosphere.

All of the employees were kind, polite, and observant. There was never a moment where we were not greeted, thanked, or served. Drinks were always full, and the food kept coming and coming! They did a fantastic job explaining each element of the dishes they served us – the ingredients, the sauces, and the pairings.

Now the food was phenomenal. You could taste that everything was fresh and only quality ingredients were used, especially with the meats, the pasta, and the sauces. Also, the extra virgin olive oil they use here is to die for! I could drink this stuff by the cup. Some of my favorite dishes were the limoncello pasta, the spicy gnocchi, the arugula salad, and the prosciutto w/ burrata. The dessert was also amazing, and so fun to watch our server prepare it in front of us.

I definitely recommend coming here for your next fine dining experience, to celebrate a big milestone, or for a special date night. You’ll love it!

Went to Valter’s for an anniversary dinner and as always, they didn’t disappoint! It’s always such a fantastic experience when we go here. The food is amazing. 10/10 experience! We tried the gnocchi and homemade lasagna this time and the lasagna was probably one of the most amazing dishes I’ve ever had. Lemon gelato w/ honey drizzled over the top with sea salt is also a must get!

The food at Valter’s was out of this world and our server, Sergio, was also a star! They treated us so well and kept adding food to the table. True hospitality. Everything was delicious, definitely recommend.
