We were recommended by a friend to try this place since their food is apparently pretty good in Waltham, so we gave it a try. I was really looking forward to trying, but there were a lot of bad impressions accumulated towards the end of our visit.
1. When we arrived, there were only 2 wait staff, so it took about 5 minutes for them to seat us. We just thought maybe it’s just a small run business, so nothing too big of a deal.
2. When we decided what to get, no one checked in with us and even with us trying to get their attention, it took about 10 minutes for us to place our order. Maybe it’s just that they don’t have enough staff today, but there also weren’t that many customers..
3. The food took 20 minutes to come for our table of 2, so by now we’ve been in here for over half an hour! Food is again good. The only noticeable thing is the black burnt marks on the birria, which had a sour bitter taste to it.
4. When we paid, we handed the credit card, which they processed on their tablet. As we waited to then select the tips and sign the tablet, they already MANUALLY SELECTED 25% TIPS WITHOUT TELLING US! I totally get it if their service was top notch to the point where they deserve a fourth of our dinner cost, BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!! If we didn’t ask for the receipt, we wouldn’t even know that they defrauded us!
If you have enough money for them to select the tips for you, as you gamble on their service quality, then sure give it a try. But I’m not coming back for a business that tries to steal my money via tips!
The staff were super friendly, service was quick, and there’s a small parking lot behind the restaurant which made things easy. Overall, a wonderful experience and definitely a place I’d return to for great food and good vibes.
However, I was disappointed that a 25% gratuity was automatically added to our bill and charged without showing us the total first or giving us the option to adjust the tip ourselves. While I understand auto-gratuity policies, 25% seems excessive, especially when 18-20% is the standard for automatic charges.
I would have appreciated transparency and the opportunity to review the bill before it was processed. I’ve attached a photo of the receipt for reference.
I would definitely come back again.
