We had a wonderful dinner last night at Carolina Cafe. The food was generous and well prepared. Excellent service. We arrived on a Friday evening at 5 pm. It started to fill fast. I had ribs(fantastic) spouse had beef tips (excellent). Highly recommend this when in Gaffney/Spartenburg area.

Onion rings are great. Thin and crispy. Service was good. I had the ribs and they were dark, dry and over cooked. Someone next to me ordered ribs and they looked really good (smoke pink and moist). Steak was over cooked to medium well/well done but recooked with a perfectly cooked medium rare replacement. Overall hit or miss on food.

Our T-bone steaks were delicious. Grandson got shrimp & grits that he ate fiercely. Quite busy when we arrived & a little wait (30 mins) but was worth the wait.

We have eaten at Carolina Cafe quite a few times and had nothing but praise until yesterday evening (10-01-25).
My wife ordered a filet medium and I ordered a rib eye rare. When the steaks arrived mine was just right but my wife’s was well done. The server said she would get the chef to cook another one.
When it arrived it was almost burnt.
The server said the regular cook was off on Wednesday and this cook was not all that good. They took my wife’s steak off the bill but she still went home with only a baked potato and salad for dinner. Our server was great . She did everything she could do to help us but the cook(I can’t call him a chef) was terrible. Any chef worth his salt would have come out to our table after the 2nd steak was refused.
They did give us two overcooked filets to take home for our dogs.
We will go back , but not on Wednesdays.

Carolina Cafe is the bomb! Just learned about it and glad I did. Although I was tempted by the dessert offerings, I had no room left after the Flounder Combo. The server was welcoming, friendly and patient; the flounder and shrimp, accompanied by baked potato and slaw, were tasty; and the decor tasteful. When I arrived shortly after 5:00 pm, there were perhaps eight or so cars in the lot, but by the time I left, at least 30! Popular place. I hope to be back…soon.
Update: I returned with a colleague the next evening and was again impressed with the service and the food. The salad that came with my meal was reminiscent of a nice Chef Salad with abundant boiled egg, bacon bits, and shredded cheddar – spectacular! My entree, Carolina Medallions, was superb – the steak and the shrimp. Truly a remarkable and memorable meal.

I will never try to eat there again, we waited forty-five minutes to get a seat even though it was cleaned minutes before as we waited! Then we ordered serloins steaks and then after waiting for our meal came out and said they were out of those. Really? Two hours info dinner rush and we had to pay an up charge. Oh hell no. I review steak houses across the country and I wouldn’t even give you a response! Terrible! Not worth the wait or the steaks if you get one! It looked like a nice place we was excited to try it and after a long day of cemetery and dealing with things we found out it was all about the upcharge. I will never waste my time with Carolina steaks again especially in Gaffney! We will get a burger at Bantom chef because they
get their order right and it was delicious!

Edit: we’ve tried this restaurant since leaving the original review. This place is always packed, so there’s never a great time to sit and wait awhile for a table. We’ve done takeout a few times and what’s extremely concerning is their practice of writing down credit card numbers when you place a phone order and keeping the details face up at the register!! The most recent time i picked up food, several credit card numbers could be seen from the hostess booth. When I asked for my written down credit card number so I could safely discard it, it seemed inconvenient and confusing to them. They need to either have online ordering or allow people to pay at pickup.
Original review: The menu selection was great and the prices were decent. One thing to know is that they LOVE bacon here…. everything we ordered came with bacon whether we wanted it or not. Our server was friendly and accommodating. The kitchen undercooks steaks, so plan ahead if you’re particular. We would come again.
