We showed up a before my cousin. We hung out after we put ourselves on the wait list. We got sat as soon as my cousin arrived. We got a nice table towards the back wall. We were in a good spot to check out the whole venue. This joint is a small venue but can hold quite a few tables. There were also a few private rooms which was pretty cool. It was poppin for a Thursday night.
Our waiter came and dropped off waters. By the time he came back around, we all knew what we wanted. My cousin started us off with some cha gio. I snagged the pho special and my cousin ordered the tofu with mixed vegetables.
The cha gio was dropped off first. They were quite tasty! The exterior was rice paper and is the only way cha gio should be made! I love the crunchiness of the fried rice paper. The filling was savory. Paired with the fish sauce, the ultimate sweet and savory combo! My pho came out piping hot! It looked like a smaller bowl but I was so wrong. I kept eating the noodles and thought I would never finish. You get a good amount of brisket, steak, meatballs, tripe and tendons. The broth was rich and warm. Everything about that bowl of pho was fantastic!
The only flaw about this joint is the parking. Their parking lot of really small. But other than that, service was great! The food was fantastic! The venue was welcoming and warm. I had a great dinner here tonight. I’m happy I got to check this joint out while staying here in SLC.
We ordered chicken pho (We changed to chicken broth, seems like it’s usually beef broth) and pork chop rice. The pho was fresh and had a well-balanced flavor, and the texture of the chicken was great. The pork chop was the best I’ve had in the States so far. It’s more on the sweeter side but I really liked it. The thickness was perfect, and the texture was pretty good too. Portion-wise it’s definitely enough for adults. Highly recommended.
The menu was excellent, offering not only classic Vietnamese dishes but also a nice variety of Chinese options. The pho was flavorful and satisfying, the fresh spring rolls were light and refreshing, and the house stir fried beef had a great balance of flavors. The chicken lettuce wraps were another highlight – very tasty. Everyone in our group found something they really enjoyed, which made the meal even better.
Practical details added to the experience as well. Parking was free, easy, and close by, which made getting in and out simple. The restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere, casual but clean, and worked well for both a small group like ours and what would be a casual dinner for two.
Overall, this was a very positive dining experience. Between the quality of the food, the variety of both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, the friendly service, and the convenient parking, Mi La Cai is a spot I would be happy to visit again on my next trip to Salt Lake City. Highly recommended if you are looking for fresh, delicious Asian food with great value and a welcoming environment.
