The atmosphere was dark and private in large wooden booths, but the music playing inside the restaurant didn’t match the feeling well. Oddly enough, more fitting soft jazz was playing at the front door, which was replaced by 1980s pop and rock upon entering deeper into the restaurant. Our server, Savannah, was incredible and extremely helpful!
I started with a glass of Pinot Grigio. It was the cheapest glass of wine but it was pleasantly balanced between light and fruity. The waitress wisely said not to be fooled by the price. Warm bread and butter were served, an unbeatable classic. We split the restaurant week menu. Whatever my wife ordered, I ordered the other option. She had the fried goat cheese salad. She said it was good with a light dressing and delicious fried goat cheese topping. The only thing she did not care for was the large beet topping. She found the large slice of beet not to be appetizing or very creative. I had the cup of tomato soup with basil oil. It was delicious and smooth. Perfect to warm you up on a chilly evening.
Next were the entrees. My wife ordered the chicken francaise. I had the shrimp Provençal. We both agreed hers was much better. The beurre blanc was fantastic and went well with all the vegetables. I would come back for that dish. The shrimp was fine, plenty of butter sauce and good portion. Penne pasta was a little overcooked. I wished the shrimp dish had a little more creative flare to it. We both took home leftovers.
I was thrilled that dessert was part of the 3 courses. We don’t skip dessert in my house. We shared the Pot de Creme & White chocolate blueberry cheesecake. I liked both but the cheesecake was the overall winner. Smooth, good crust, and good amount of berry & white chocolate topping. I felt like the pot de creme should have came with ice cream or glass of milk because it was so rich. The cinnamon whipped cream was a great garnish.
Overall we really enjoyed our evening. I would be more than willing to come back for nice meal on a special occasion. Thank you for participating in restaurant week!
The escargot was however, pretty good, the garlic butter sauce tasted good and balanced out the naturally earthy taste of the snail.
The venue unfortunately was on the back end of renovations, so the air conditioning was not working, so it was a bit uncomfortable and stuffy.
The service was great. Savannah was helpful and knowledgeable, and made every effort to make our visit good!
Mussels Provencal – BOMB.
We came for the mussels and they did not disappoint. Lots of flavor, especially in the red curry version. Dip the bread in that jawn too yeeeeehaw.
Duck Cassoulet – Good dish. Mostly savory taste. Not a ton of flavor going on but high quality and well made (tender inside and crispy outside). I’ll probably get a different entree next time.
Our server was great, he helped us with the few questions we had and split our entree (that we were sharing) to two bowls without us asking for that which was nice. I think his name was Chris.
