Social Profile:

The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such …

Apparently the manager is here before everyone else but she is very happy to serve you breakfast when though its not a breakfast place. They have many ingredients to do breakfast sandwiches or something simple plus tots or fruit mix as a breakfast type side. Basic coffee and a black hot tea but no flavored teas. There’s even options of various breads. Partner got steak (titanic is shredded prime rib) and egg sandwich on french bread, I just put together something random. Not to mention its super quiet in here at 9am…

We visited on 7/13/25. Quickly seated and we had our drinks within 5 minutes. The lady working the bar was our waitress and she was excellent. I got the Little Italy sub and it was packed with meat and the bread was so soft the macaroni salad was delicious. The Mrs. got the Bacon and Egg Burger and fries She loved it. The draft beer was poured perfect and just the right temp and it was happy hour prices. We also got the Cinnamon Bun sensation with ice cream. It was very good. The House was built in 1820 and was beautiful. We will be back Thanks so much.

Food was good. Serving sizes are huge! Service was so-so, but they were busy. I had to ask for boxes and the check 3xs. The bathroom on the first floor could have been cleaner. The floor and door are gross. This restaurant is not accessible to someone in a wheelchair.

The service was fast and friendly. I ordered the chili. I remember now that I had ordered it before and wasn’t a fan. Like before, the chili is very thick and pasty. It needs some thinning out and some salt. I doctored mine at the table, and it was palatable. However, next time I will order one of their awesome sandwiches!!

This is a chain restaurant! As vegetarians we thought the food was only fair for a restaurant with a huge menu in a college town like Lexington, VA you would think that they could come up with a few really good vegetarian options. The cheese dip tasted like it was out of a can or bottle. The mushroom burger is actually a hamburger with mushrooms on it although the menu is not clear about that. They did supply ample ketchup with the French fries. On a positive note, we received excellent service from robin and we enjoyed sitting on the large porch for lunch. The historical note about an African-American butcher once owning the building and running his business from this location was an added bonus.

The food was great, sandwich was made of high quality ingredients but I didn’t like the fries, they weren’t fresh and seemed preheated.

I’ve been to several locations in the area, and the sandwiches at Macado’s are always excellent! The Titanic is delicious, and I loved the fried pickles. Only reason I am knocking a star is because this particular location has much more of a college bar vibe than other locations, which have more of a family restaurant vibe.

I had a really disappointing first experience at Macado’s on January 31 around 7:00 PM in the upstairs dining area during a work outing (party of about 35). My order came out wrong, and when I mentioned it, the waiter was rude and dismissive, repeatedly saying my order wasn’t “THAT wrong” and walking away.

When I asked for more water, he told me I didn’t need any and kept walking. When I asked again, he lifted my cup and yelled, “Look, his cup isn’t even all the way empty!,” to my group. As he got more water, he yelled, “You want water, and I have to serve 35 people!” The replacement order was also wrong, but it wasn’t worth dealing with him again.

I understand everyone can have a bad day, but this was unacceptable. Completely unprofessional and embarrassing in front of coworkers.
