Great place for any hunger time. Great service ! Food was wonderful. Highly recommend for all ages . They also have 1/2 price sushi rolls every Tuesday and Thursday. All regular rolls as well as specialty rolls. They also have hibachi. Great food

Best service I’ve received in a while! Super sweet server, super speedy and amazing hibachi chefs, the sushi chefs were nice too! The food was super tasty. I will definitely be back. The only bad part about the experience is not trying it sooner

I usually do lunch. I had filet mignon with vegetables and rice. The soup is always hot and tasty. Also the salad with ginger sauce is a favorite of mine. It’s served with soy and yum-yum sauce. Good for dipping steak and veggies. They have dine in or hibachi.

Food tasted great and waitress was great EXCEPT for the fact there was paper mixed in my wife’s salad! Waitress said it was chopstick wrapper and there weren’t chopsticks on our table meaning the trash came from the back! Was the bowl not washed? Was it someone else’s salad from their table after they left? Why was it mixed into the salad at the bottom of bowl? Love UMI but after killing my wife’s appetite due to trash in our food, I do not think we’ll be back! But don’t worry, they gave us a $5 discount off of our ticket!! Why would they not at least credit my wife’s meal?

Great experience. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the service was fantastic. The food was really good. Surprisingly being in Alabama, you never expect to experience genuine Japanese cuisine with fresh food. They did a great job.
Only complaint was that Miso Soup seemed watered down, but that was all.
Will be making it a must go to when visiting Florence again.

Came into Umi for some vegetarian sushi options while traveling to Florence on assignment with Homes.com. Got veggie roll, asparagus roll and vegetable tempura, with Asahi beer ~30$ which included a 20% tip.
Was blown away by the veggie roll with seaweed salad mixed in, loved it! The vegetable tempura was so good as well, crisp and good variety of veggies.
A cold Asahi beer topped this great meal off.
All the sushi chefs and waiters were so kind and nice, sat at the bar to chat with the sushi chef.
A must visit in this area of Florence where everything is a chain. Support local!

Although there isn’t a lot of authentic Japanese food on the menu, the food they do serve is mostly good. The sushi is fresh and pretty good as well. My mom hates Asian cuisine and always has the worst experiences eating out. Here she is able to eat at the Hibachi Grill where she can have steak and shrimp, it’s cooked right in front of her so there can’t be any mistakes, and it comes right off the grill onto her plate so it can’t be served cold.
You can sit in front of the sushi bar and watch them make flawless food art, at the gorgeous lit up bar, at a regular table or booth, in a tatami room for added privacy (ideal for a party or date) where you can even sit on floor cushions like a more traditional Japanese style, or at a hibachi grill (you may have to sit with other people you don’t know) and watch the entertainment as your food is prepared right in front of you!
Overall, even after quitting multiple times because of awful management (which still exists), it is a place I would recommend though the whole experience can be a 50/50 risk.
