My husband and I went for Valentine’s Day dinner. Loved every bite! Our waitress Nancy was very attentive and friendly. We started with the chips and salsa. Delish. I had the Chicken Parmagina, accompanied with a tasty side of pasta. Finished with a slice of Limoncello cake with lemon mousse and white chocolate shavings. Too good!

We stopped by El Barzon looking forward to a nice meal, but it fell short. My husband chose the place based on reviews, and he shortlisted this restaurant because the menu offered both Mexican and Italian dishes. After our visit, we honestly wondered if those reviews were for the same restaurant. There are several restaurants nearby with better food at half the price, and we drove an hour for this meal.

We booked our table in advance to avoid waiting and were seated immediately. They do have covered outdoor seating with attractive lighting, which would be a nice option for warmer months.

The food was just okay and not worth the price. The chicken parmesan and salmon were decent but not memorable. My son, who usually enjoys trying different cuisines, was very disappointed.

The service was poor. Our waiter was not very attentive, and despite informing the staff that it was a special occasion, the experience did not reflect that. We requested hot water when we were seated but didn’t receive it until just before leaving. Water refills had to be requested repeatedly, and overall, staff attention was lacking even though the restaurant was busy.

Overall, nothing really stood out, food, service, and ambience were all just okay. Parking is available in the back, but we won’t be returning.

The patio is absolutely lovely! My daughter and I were looking forward to fresh pasta, and it was certainly delicious! We ordered 3 different dishes to share. 1- The pasta trio was excellent, but only one ravioli was given. 2- The mushroom and veal ravioli were good, although definitely needed some seasoning. And there were only 4 on the plate! They were large, but still. One had obviously broken during boiling and the filling had mostly leaked out. That was 1/4 of the entree lost, lol! 3- The veal limone was cooked nicely but had almost no lemon flavor. We had 3 entrees, yet the two of us left hungry ‍♀️ We tried to order dessert, but our server couldn’t be found. After 20-30 minutes, we just asked for the check and left.

I was in the Detroit Area on business and it was recommended that we try El Barzon. Our group met there and were immediately seated.

The room was dim, calm, and very relaxing. We could carry on a conversation without any issues of having to raise our voices. The wait staff were very attentive and knowledgeable, and help choosing dinner very easy.

I started off my dinner with an Old Fashion, then ordered the Honey Mustard Salmon. The Salmon was flaky, moist, and delicious. It was served with a scalloped style potato that was rich and flavorful. I capped my meal off with a nice slice of cake with an Irish Coffee.

A truly wonderful dining experience and truthfully worth coming back. You should check El Barzon out for yourself, I believe you will have a great experience just as I did.

We made an early reservation and were sat immediately. Our server, Alex, was phenomenal and fun to talk to. He had great knowledge about each dish. He encouraged us to try the cactus soup and I’m glad he did because it was surprisingly delicious! We order the chicken mole and the parmesan linguine with truffle. Both were excellent! As the evening went on and the restaurant became busier, Alex did a great job of checking on us regardless. We will be back!

El Barzon & La Noria are next door to each other. Both menus are served at both restaurants. It allows more options for the guests. One person can have Mexican while the other can have Italian. I love the concept. They have indoor seating but I seldom see folks eating inside. The patio is the best spot! The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is good. There is plenty of free parking in the back!

I’m not hating on this place at all on the 4 stars.

The presentation of the food was nice. Food was ok

Salmon, Cecina el Barzon, Pollo Al Limone are the pics I took. Kind of sloppy. And the food was a 7/10 in taste.

Guacamole side was good. Beer was cold.

Might be back…Maybe summer time….
There was 5 of us and we averaged $40 each plus tip ($50)
Do the math….Worth it? probably not…Not being cheap just realistic.

The owner was nice and gave us a sample of some pasta.

Valentine’s Day at El Barzon was unfortunately a major disappointment and probably the worst idea I ever had.

First, reservations were not honored. When we arrived for our 8:00 PM reservation, there was a line of 15+ couples who had also reserved tables and were being told they could wait up to an hour because “the 6 PM crowd doesn’t want to leave.” On one of the busiest dining nights of the year, better planning should be expected. We were told we could either continue waiting or seat ourselves on the patio. Guests began rushing to claim patio tables, many of which were still dirty from previous parties. Luckily, we were able to snag a small table that was made.

We placed our appetizer and dinner orders immediately after sitting down. About 15 minutes later, our server returned and asked if we were ready to order, meaning our orders had not been entered. While he was doing his best and clearly overwhelmed, it was obvious that management had not staffed appropriately for the evening.

Our appetizer, which our server told us came with garlic bread, arrived very cold. We were so hungry at that point that we didn’t send it back. The bread itself didn’t arrive until about 20 minutes later, despite several reminders. The “garlic bread” turned out to be plain, untoasted white bread with garlic butter on the side.

To make matters worse, the patio heater stopped working for a period of time, and we were left sitting in the cold. Thankfully it came back on near the end of dinner, but it made for an uncomfortable experience.

When our entrées finally arrived, they were underwhelming, especially for the price. $30 for three pieces of shrimp over what tasted like basic spaghetti and jarred sauce was disappointing. Tasted like a jarred sauce from Walmart. My boyfriend’s portion was so small he finished it almost immediately.

The only highlight of the evening was the bottle of Moscato.

Overall, what should have been a special night felt chaotic and poorly managed. Our server tried, but the lack of organization and preparation from management unfortunately ruined the experience.

We came for a birthday lunch and to try something different. We ordered several different items. The place has real dark lighting and there was one server on a Friday afternoon. I guess this is a Mexican – Italian fusion menu which seems eclectic but kind of misses. They were out of one appetizer and substituted sausage. The sauce was good for that. We tried cactus soup and it was different. The Caesar salad was just ok. We ordered the stuffed pepper and chicken with the green pumpkin seed sauce. The stuffed pepper entree was one pepper with rice and beans. They use black beans which was actually our favorite thing here. The chicken with green sauce seemed like it was reheated, precooked chicken with the sauce over it. The sauce was different and I liked that but I couldn’t get past the pre cooked chicken. We also tried tiramisu and lemon cake. Both of those were not cold and they should’ve been. Especially the tiramisu. It seemed like they were sitting out and I was a little skeptical about eating that based on the temp. The chips and salsa were pretty good though. Our server was very engaging in the beginning but she was alone and it got busy so service fell off a little in the middle of our meal. Maybe in the summer this is a better setting but our experience was disappointing.
