Shantell and her team even came in on a day when the restaurant wasn’t open just to take care of us. When we arrived for pickup, the food was hot, ready to go, and she had thoughtfully provided food warmers as well. She truly went above and beyond and put smiles on the faces of 40+ people with her amazing food.
Shantell is not only an award-winning small business owner, she’s an amazing person. This isn’t just generic soul food — Shantell’s soul is in this food! If you’re looking for great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a gracious host, stop by Shantell’s Just Until. You’ll be glad you did.
On behalf of the entire Sunbelt Rentals Sanford team, we say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!
Shantell is such a wonderful person, inside and out! Her and her family are wonderful and friendly staff. I felt well taken care of so much love in this business every dollar is worth investing into this restaurant.
Edit 3/05/26:
Drove out to Sanford again today for the best fried chicken in the US and it didn’t disappoint. I came to say goodbye as I’m moving back to Texas. Whenever I fly to FL I’ll come out to eat your delicious fixins! You’re an amazing lady with a heart for both soul food and the community. RESPECT for both.❤️
I have not been back since, and I would not waste my money returning. The experience did not give a “come back and try again” impression. I’ve had much better food and service elsewhere.
I hope changes was made to the restaurant
Cute Spot, But Big Letdown
Shantell’s Just Until is a cute restaurant with potential, but unfortunately, our visit came with more regrets than joy. We understood the long wait—it’s a small business—but we were about ready to leave. I literally had to convince my mom to stay, and honestly, I wish we hadn’t. The food looked good in the photos, but reality didn’t match. The presentation was deceiving.
We ordered the chicken and waffles, and that was the highlight—crispy, flavorful, and very tasty. But that was where the good ended.
I was excited to try the jerk chicken Philly, thinking it would be a fun twist—sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype at all. It lacked flavor, balance, and that jerk kick I was looking for. It was just a salty, heavy mess.
The jerk chicken meal, which my mom ordered, was equally disappointing. As a Jamaican and a chef, she was appalled. The chicken was drenched in an overly salty wet marinade—no grill marks, no dry rub, no smoke. Just spicy and salty. It didn’t resemble authentic jerk in any way. The yellow rice tasted like plain water.
The collard greens were decent, and the catfish was good. The mashed potatoes were okay. But the fries? Completely burnt and overcooked.
Drink options were a whole other issue—just sweet tea and tap water. Once the ice melted in the water, the taste was unbearable. I took one gulp and immediately regretted it.
The kids’ menu is limited, so we ended up ordering adult meals for the kids—costly and frustrating.
Suggestions:
• Ease up on the salt
• Grill the jerk chicken for authenticity—jerk is a method, not just a seasoning
• Improve drink variety—sweet tea and bad tap water isn’t enough
• If you’re low on stock, adjust the menu accordingly
We came ready to support a Black-owned business and really wanted to love the experience. But unfortunately, it fell short in too many ways. With the money we spent, we could’ve enjoyed the food truck festival instead.
Hopefully, some adjustments can be made, because the potential is there—but we left with disappointment instead.
We eat our food and not complained we came from church and switch our usual spot. Lesson learned.
My wife doesn’t get the option to have delicious fried foods that are also GF. I got the fried chicken and she got the catfish. But me being a true-blue gluten eater, I can tell you this food was fantastic! Oh and you have to get a side of Shantell’s Sauce.
The staff was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. And we got to meet Shantell while we were there. The atmosphere was fun and creative too. This was our first time there. And it will NOT be our last.
