My advice for happy hour is first to arrive early. Or, as it turns out, you can reserve a table in the bar. We were actually kinda surprised to arrive minutes after 4:30 and find just one table available to us. The bar was already almost completely full and every other table had a ‘reserved’ sign on it. We’ll reserve next time.
Given a regular glass of wine is around $14, it’s goodness to arrive at happy hour where a few of the wines by the glass are 50% off. There’s a wine list too for 50% but we didn’t check it out.
We enjoyed the Blue Crab Guacamole although just note that it comes with plantain chips rather than tortilla chips. It worked fine though.
Also went with the Lux Burger & fries. Very good. They even let us split and brought it to the table on separate plates. Thought that was nice.
Waiter was attentive and helpful.
Only disappointment was the website said music in the bar would start at 5:30pm and the pianist was only arriving around 6:30 when we were departing. Bummer.
We began with jumbo fresh stone crab claws, beautifully chilled and bursting with sweet, delicate flavor, paired alongside crispy, perfectly panko-crusted oysters that offered the ideal balance of crunch and tenderness. My husband warmed up with a velvety lobster bisque, rich and flavorful with just the right touch of creaminess.
For my main course, I chose the miso-glazed sea bass, which arrived perfectly cooked with a glossy, caramelized glaze that imparted a subtle umami depth and melt-in-your-mouth texture. My husband went with the broiled salmon, which was tender, flaky, and seasoned just right. To elevate the meal, we added the truffle king crab butter—a decadently creamy, aromatic sauce that infused every bite with luxurious flavor.
The highlight of the evening was the surprise complimentary baked Alaska—a stunning dessert with layers of warm cake, cold ice cream, and toasted meringue that was both theatrical and delicious. My husband’s chocolate malt cake, part of his course menu, was a perfect finish—rich, indulgent, and comforting.
For drinks, he enjoyed a vibrant, fruity sangria while I sipped on a refreshing zero-proof berry patch cocktail, bursting with fresh berry flavors and a crisp finish—perfect complements to our meal.
The elegant ambiance, attentive service, and thoughtfully crafted dishes combined to create an unforgettable birthday celebration. If you’re craving fresh, sophisticated seafood with a touch of luxury, Truluck’s Austin is a must-try .
The bass was alright, but I’ve had better. The contrast of flavors wasn’t what I expected it felt a bit too salty.
My date ordered the salmon which was overall pretty good to her, but I tasted it and I’ll keep that comment to myself.
I do wish the atmosphere as far as people was better. There were some quite loud tables around which really ruined the experience for my date’s birthday dinner.
If you go definitely get an appetizer so you’re not all the way disappointed.
