We purchased $115 worth of food and we generally had an okay dinner, but we also brought home some clam chowder and refrigerated the leftovers quickly. The next day, our older family member had clam chowder and saltines; nothing else. Five hours later my older family member was throwing up and fighting diarrhea, and they haven’t stopped after almost five hours.
I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager; the woman who answered the phone said she was the manager. I relayed the events of the day to the manager and she immediately said that they would not refund any money unless the customer obtained a note signed by a doctor stating that the food that caused the poisoning was positively identified as the food from the Blue Crab.
I then replied that it was patently impossible for any customer to save their first vomit or diarrhea in a bag and have it analyzed by a lab so that a doctor could positively identify their food as the cause. I also mentioned that a decent lawyer would be able to tear the restaurant’s demands apart in court.
HOWEVER, I also stated that I did not call the restaurant to get them to give me back my money for the meal. I called the restaurant ONLY to let them know that they had a bad batch of clam chowder and to let them know what happened.
I then asked if there were any other people who may have been made sick from the clam chowder, and the manager said that the chef said the only sold three bowls of clam chowder yesterday. The manager then asked me to hold on while she went to speak to her boss and I was placed on hold for almost eight minutes…and then the phone hung up on me.
Make of it what you will. This was just my experience. You may have different experiences, but I can say for sure that I will NEVER go to the Blue Crab Juicy Seafood restaurant ever again.
The service was really nice and the staff were really welcoming even when they were closing earlier than usual.
Everything was so good even if it’s not that fresh. I combined all the seasonings together and it was amazing.
I didn’t like the crab legs as they were frozen.
The shrimps, the vegetables and the calamari were delicious.
I would love to give it another try and I recommend it!
After spending almost $200, I asked for a to-go lemonade and was told they couldn’t give me one because “if we give you one, we have to give everyone one.” At that point, the cost of a small Styrofoam cup of lemonade should not be an issue on a bill that high.
Between the average food, confusing pricing structure, and lackluster customer service, the experience wasn’t worth what I paid. I won’t be back.
You can order already created bags of seafood, or you can create your own. You can pay by 1/2 pound, by pound, or the already created bags are priced differently. We both created our own. We had the same thing, shrimp, snow crab legs (one bunch), potatoes, I had corn on the cob, and Mark did not. I also had a bit more spice with mine. Yes, I did wear my bib and the plastic gloves they gave us so I wouldn’t get the old bay seasoning on my wedding rings. Mark did not wear the gloves. We did not like the cheese bread. The cheese was not melted at all. $6 for cheese bread, I didn’t eat mine, and Mark only ate half of his. That was disappointing.
Also, there was a man walking around, cleaning off tables and doing other things, had his earbuds in, and was talking on the phone the entire time.
The atmosphere was nice, and since it is in the old Max and Erma’s, there is a bit of it remaining, which I appreciate. We have been to a few of these type of restaurants and we like them.
I’d give 5 stars but the time we spent waiting was a little long. It took 25 min to get our appetizers and an hour for our food. This place did just open like a week ago so it’s normal to experience kitchen delays. I hope to see this improve over time and I look forward to coming back in the future!
If you’re not willing to give grace to the staff then wait a few months when they’re in a better swing of things.
