We stopped here for a quick bite on our way to somewhere else. The restaurant was a little busy, but there was no one at the bar. Eboni was our bartender, and she was friendly and started us out with a Watermelon Margarita and honey butter croissants. We were not familiar with Cheddar’s, but she said they are known for them. We really enjoyed the croissants. We ordered the chips and queso, which did not seem to be scratch at all, and the Key West Shrimp. It would be hard to mess up shrimp and rice, and it was very tasty, as was the pineapple pico de gallo. However, the “off the cob” corn tasted like canned corn. I would say Cheddar’s is more “scratch-esque” but the prices are so reasonable we are ok with that once in a while, and it’s a solid 3. The drinks are especially delicious.

We got there Saturday afternoon for lunch. It wasn’t busy at all, which confused me why it took 45 minutes for the food to come out. We just sat there with our drinks, which we finished, waiting for someone to check on us. The service was extremely poor, I wouldn’t recommend it. To top it all off, our dishes were cold, except for the bag of broccoli they put directly in the middle of my plate. I would highly NOT recommend it. Who wants a bag that you’ve touched put on top of the food I’m about to eat? It’s sad how fast this place went downhill.

I had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant since it first opened. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was spending time at the hospital with my husband. Fortunately, the restaurant was located nearby, which provided the opportunity to finally try the food.
I was thoroughly pleased with the experience.
The bourbon salmon and shrimp were exceptionally flavorful and well-prepared. The buffalo shrimp offered a satisfying balance of spice and seasoning. There should be more for that price. And come with the sauce already on it! The green beans were a standout—perfectly seasoned and full of flavor—while the carrots were tender and expertly cooked.
The honey butter croissants were a particular favorite of my husband’s.
Although we arrived quite hungry, we were genuinely impressed by the depth of flavor in each dish. The meal exceeded our expectations and was well worth the cost. I look forward to returning in the future.
One drawback: the “seasoned” white rice lacked seasoning and fell short compared to the rest of the meal. Oh and another con, the fries were underwhelming for sure.
Vegetarians
The green beans were ABSOLUTELY delicious And you want to know WHY? They were made with meat – PORK‼️ Unbeknownst to me a 14 years now – pescatarian, I was violently SICK and out of commission for at least two (2) entire days. Oh my goodness I learned my lesson – I typically inquire about the meal ingredients for my dining options.
VERY IMPORTANT
to ASK what are the vegetables cooked with or in for seasoning and flavors! For some odd reason, some culinary chefs or staff – those who prepare the food in chain establishments don’t THINK that: cooking with and cooking IN is the SAME thing! NO meats or products, by products = means vegetarian food choices and options‼️
●Recommendation: ADD sweet potato fries and sweet potatoes to the menu.

We love stopping at a Cheddar’s when we travel. We know we will get a great meal and great service! The honey butter croissants never disappoint and both of our chicken tender meals were excellent. Food came out very hot!
Bar area seemed loud for how few people there were but just a small note if you are looking for a quieter dining experience.

This was my first visit to the Newark Cheddar’s scratch kitchen location, and it definitely lived up to expectations! I had previously dined at the Dover location over 8 years ago, and this one was just as welcoming. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff made us feel right at home.
The drinks were fantastic, and we were off to a great start with their signature complimentary honey butter croissants—soft, buttery, and a perfect way to wake up the taste buds! The food was equally impressive: the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the country fried chicken was packed with flavor, and the shrimp and fish platter was generously portioned and cooked to perfection.
The portion sizes were spot on—we even had leftovers to enjoy later that evening. It truly felt like the flavor party continued well into the night. I’ll definitely be returning!

Instead of going to Miller’s to celebrate our anniversary, we decided to give Cheddar’s a try and very pleased we did. Buttery croissants were habit forming, bourbon salmon and shrimp was excellent. Baby back ribs were tender with good flavor, had the BBQ sauce on the side and it had great flavor and the onion rings were awesome. We will definitely be returning. Wait staff and host were on point.

Had a nice dinner outting. Service was great. My friend loved her chicken pot pie. I had the salmon with bourbon sauce.
Note for allergy prone-food sensitive patrons:
I should have asked what was in the sauce-as a person with sensitivities i struggled with the “heat” of the seasonings used. They also coated the shrimp in something making it impossible to eat. My own fault for not asking more questions but I’ve never had a bourbon sauce be spicy… But suggest they list something on the menu to indicate a somewhat spicy dish.

We’ve only been to Cheddar’s 1 other time while visiting friends in Nebraska 10 yrs ago and it’s still outstanding. Everything, absolutely everything was perfect, from being greeted and seated by the host, to the croissants drizzled with sweet butter, to some of the best service we’ve ever received by a server (Michelle is a gem!) to the food. Everything is made from scratch. You have to respect that. The croissants were heaven, soft , warm and buttery drizzled with their delicious sweet butter, we could have made a meal out of them alone. We ordered the onion rings for our starter. They are made fresh to order and come with their house made dipping sauces. The portion is huge. I strongly recommend sharing. I ordered the half rack of rib and steak platter with 2 sides (I chose the red beans with rice and the broccoli cheddar) and my wife was indecisive so she went with Michelle’s recommendation of the Monte Cristo and 1 side. I have to admit that the Monte Cristo is one of the best things I’ve EVER eaten. Again, made fresh to order it’s funnel cake batter stuffed with sliced ham and cheese, dusted with powdered sugar accompanied by an amazing raspberry compote for dipping. A total mouthgasm. Perfection!!!!! My meal was also delicious but, I’m thinking I should have ordered the Monte Cristo as well.
My steak was tender and cooked to a perfect med rare, the ribs were tender, juicy and had just the right amount of sauce to make a sticky coating. The red beans with rice were rich and creamy, the ham gave a nice saltiness and the broccoli and cheese was good with a nice coating of bread crumbs for texture. We don’t have Cheddar’s in Ontario Canada, which is a shame, so I am glad we chose to come here for our “pre-anniversary” dinner.
I cannot recommend the Monte Cristo enough.

It was my first time here and it was a good overall experience. The highlight was the honey and butter croissants… omg, so good. Really hope they open more locations up north. I got the rack of ribs and couldn’t finish it. I left feeling like I got my moneys worth and the service was great.

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen seems to have changed over the past year. The food isn’t as good as it used to be, and the service has slipped as well. We used to come here and expect a wait because it was always packed—now it’s easy to get a table, which says something.
I’m not sure if it’s related to broader corporate decisions or shifts at the parent-company level, but the overall experience just isn’t what it once was. We may give it another try if we hear it’s improved, but right now there are better options in the area.
