It is missing multiple ‘deluxe’ items I’ve seen on the AYCE menus of multiple GTA restaurants, such as grilled squid, red tuna, yellowtail, amaebi, scallops (the fried scallops are imitation crab), and octopus dishes like sashimi and takoyaki. The dessert menu also lacks items multiple AYCE restaurants in the GTA offer, such as cream puffs, chocolate ice cream, mousse, and fruit gelatin.
Additionally, while I don’t ever recall having a problem with the ratio of rice to fish in the rolls, there have been occasions where the nigiri was made with an excess of rice and quite thin cuts of fish. This can be seen in the images attached.
If you mostly want to eat the ‘bread-and-butter’ types of sushi and desserts and don’t mind a higher rice-to-fish ratio in the nigiri, you will likely have a good experience here with the high-quality service, atmosphere, and food. But if you want a greater variety in menu options, I’d recommend Ichiban Asian AYCE and AiSushi in Markham/Scarborough.
Sushi Mountain has been a special place for me and my family for over 15 years, and it never disappoints. From family dinners to celebrations (and even random cravings), this has always been our go-to sushi spot.
The food is consistently fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared, and the quality has stayed amazing year after year—which says a lot. You can really tell how much care goes into everything they serve. The menu has something for everyone, whether you’re a sushi lover or trying it for the first time.
The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the atmosphere feels comfortable and familiar—like a place you want to keep coming back to. It’s rare to find a restaurant that stays this good for this long.
Sushi Mountain isn’t just a restaurant to us, it’s a tradition. I’ll happily keep coming back for many more years and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great sushi and a great experience.
