We were just looking for a place to get a good meal and craft beer after a long day on the road and The Depot did not disappoint. There was a large menu and the food was good. They had local craft beer on draft as well.

Our family of 7 enjoyed our experience at The Depot! Everything was delicious(I had the country fried steak, husband had the Seafood Mac, daughter had the Dilly Burger, other kids had kids meals), generous portions, friendly staff, and clean building. Highly recommend.

Beautiful restaurant next to railroad tracks. A train went by slowly as we were there. Nice outdoor dining option. Decent variety of food on the menu. Ordered walleye and an appetizer of nachos. Forgot to take photos of the food. Walleye was bland, nachos were pretty good. There is a game room on the east side of the building. Lots of dining seating. There is a huge selection of beer on tap. Love the decor. Complementary popcorn.

Cool spot in an old train depot. Friendly server. Tried the train wreck appetizer and the Philly. Both were great. Would definitely stop in again if ever in the area. And it’s just a short drive from the corn palace!

Burger Battle 2025:
The Bourbon Burger

Honestly, I was really disappointed with this burger. It sounds really good, but delivery was not there.
There was basically no flavor/sauce. All I could taste was burger, with peppers and cheese. When we made it down to the bottom of the container, I noticed that the fries were soaking up what sauce spilled off the burger and it tasted like a soy sauce. Neither my daughter nor myself were impressed, sadly.

The burger seemed to have so much potential with shaved prime rib, sautéed peppers and cheese, but I believe it was the sauce that failed the burger.

We have tried the prime rib at every place in Mitchell that regularly offers it. The Depot without question by far serves the best consistently. It is trimmed so your not recieving 50 percent fat as most other places do. So if you want the best prime it’s Friday nights.
John the owner when present, which seems like most of the time says high to people coming in and thanks them when they leave. That goes a long way.
I read the varied reviews on food quality, service ect. and I surely understand people’s feelings and have been dissatisfied at every restaurant I have been in when you go regularly.
The Depot has been in business for many many years for a reason!
The dedication and effort that John, his family and staff put into this business is remarkable.

Dog friendly outdoor patio. Our waitress Cait was super nice and all the staff was friendly. Steaks were cooked great!

My only complaint about this place was that the drinks tasted like there was no alcohol in them.

The server, bartender, and host were phenomenal. Super upbeat! The atmosphere is cozy with a lot of local flair.

I was passing through on a road trip and decided to try this spot and the reviews looked great.

The problem is the food. I don’t mind paying for great food, but this didn’t come close to the price demanded.

Had two ribeyes. They were cooked well, but I’lf you have any issues with blood pressure stay away, there is enough salt to have a war between ancient kingdoms over the spice rights. This was due to the fact that the cuts of meat were subpar, and about 1/2 of one of the steaks was pure fat.

The mashed potatoes had to have been sourced from an instant packet found in a prison pantry. But don’t worry they were doused in gravy saltier than your ex spouse. It’s bad when a side salad is the highlight of your meal.

With two entrees water to drink, and tip the meal was 100$! I’ve spent more but this was astronomical for something Ruby Tuesday can do better.

Stopped for lunch. Place is super cool looking inside and outside. The menu was pretty standard and that worked just fine for us. Husband had the reuban and said it was good. I had the Dill burger. The burger was pretty good actually. The fries were seasoned well but not hot. Only seemed to have one guy working the tables and he was pretty busy. Bartender finally seemed to be more helpful after some time.
Overall, it was good. Prices for what we had were fair I’d say.
