If you are looking for the best steakhouse in Atlanta for a professional gathering, New York Prime remains the undisputed heavyweight champion. We recently hosted a business dinner here with colleagues, and the experience was nothing short of flawless from start to finish.

Why It’s Perfect for Business
The atmosphere strikes that rare balance between high-energy sophistication and a polished, professional environment. It’s the kind of place where deals get done over world-class service.
• The Food: The USDA Prime steaks are aged to perfection and served on sizzling plates. The Pittsburgh char on the bone-in ribeye is legendary, and the “colossal” shrimp cocktail actually lives up to its name.
• The Service: The staff operates with a level of precision you rarely see. They are attentive without being intrusive—ideal for maintaining the flow of a business conversation.
• The Ambiance: With live piano music and a classic, upscale interior, it feels timeless and impressive.

Standout Recommendations
• Must-Order: The Haggerty hash browns and the thick-cut sizzling bacon.
• For the Table: Don’t skip the butter cake for dessert; it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for the team.

New York Prime isn’t just a meal; it’s a high-end experience that reflects perfectly on anyone hosting a professional event. Whether you’re a local or visiting Atlanta for a conference, this is the premier destination for top-tier dining and prime cuts.

Great atmosphere. We went on Valentine’s Day weekend & the wait was a little longer. The food came hot and taste great. We would come back. The waiter was amazing.

Oysters – 5/5 less salt on the plate under the oysters
Crab cake – 5/5 I would have liked more sauce

I visited New York Prime on Friday to celebrate both my daughter’s birthday and my own, expecting the kind of experience you hope for when choosing a well-known steakhouse for a special occasion. Unfortunately, while the food was very good, the service left a lot to be desired.

From the moment we sat down, we felt more like a burden than guests celebrating something meaningful. Our waitress made a few dismissive and rude remarks throughout the evening, and the overall tone of the service felt impatient and unwelcoming. We mentioned that we were celebrating birthdays, yet there was no acknowledgment, no effort to make the moment feel special, and not even a simple celebratory gesture or song.

It was disappointing because when you choose a restaurant like this for a birthday, you’re not just paying for the food you’re paying for the experience. Instead, the evening felt rushed and uncomfortable.

Atlanta has no shortage of incredible steakhouses that consistently deliver both great food and great hospitality. Restaurants like Hal’s The Steakhouse, KR SteakBar, Bones, Little Alley Steak, and Marcel are places I frequent and would recommend far more confidently for celebrating a special occasion. At those restaurants, the service typically matches the quality of the food, and guests actually feel welcomed and appreciated.

I would strongly suggest choosing one of Atlanta’s many other outstanding steakhouses if you’re planning to celebrate something important.

Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the hype. I ordered a steak that looked promising, but the outside had an overly charcoaly, almost burnt flavor, while the inside was too rare for my liking—not the balance I’d expect from a top-tier steakhouse.

On the positive side, the cheese mashed potatoes were excellent. The Negroni was spot on, well-balanced and refreshing. The service and atmosphere were nice, but for the price, I expected the steak to be the highlight of the meal, not the disappointment.

New York Prime had been our favorite steak house for literally decades – beginning with the Boca Raton location, years of patronage and tens of thousands of dollars spent. Things have changed – not for the better, at the Buckhead location. The minute you walk in it is obvious the place is mismanaged beyond words. No doubt the Fire Marshal would have shut this restaurant down due to overcrowding. Christmas Eve 2025 8PM reservations, with a specific request for a table location. Arrived 10 minutes early for an 8pm, finally seated at 8:45pm. Seated in the bar, not the dining room as requested. Crowded is an understatement, loud and obnoxious is accurate. The days of standards music playing in the background has been replaced with an 80’s-90’s playlist of pop songs. The atmosphere has gone from an elegant fine steak house dining experience to a noisy, crowded barroom experience. I do not believe Bobby Donlan is still part of this restaurant anymore – he was a consummate operator. Mind you this is a restaurant that the average ticket is $150-$200 per person. This WAS our #1 steak house experience in Atlanta, not even a contender anymore. Marcel, Arnette’s, to name a couple that are head and shoulders above New York Prime. Your hard-earned money is better spent elsewhere. Eventually all good things end. BTW, this was ordered WELL DONE, and this shows how poorly run the restaurant is, imagine having to send this back after waiting over an hour to get the food, as it was not cooked.

Elite dining and atmosphere. It was such a good time. Our server was amazing. I wish I could remember her name but next time I go I would definitely request her greatest birthday dinner ever.

Customer service and ambiance were great!
The Crab Cake was delicious with no fillers.

The Baked Shrimp, while a fan favorite I wasn’t necessarily a fan.

The lamb was seasoned and cooked to perfection.

The baked potato was probably the best I’ve had in quite a while.

The Cesar Salad was okay.

The Alfredo was okay.

The Amaretto Sour was perfection in a cup.

Last but not least that Butter Cake was Amazing!

I’ll be back to try a few more items.

Updated Visit Reviw:
So as promised I did visit again to try some additional menu items….

Again ambiance and customer service were exceptional

For starters I had the Oyster Rockefeller they were decent but I’ve had better.

The 3.5 pound lobster with table-side service was delicious.

The baked potatoes this time was no prepared the way that first potato was prepared during my initial visit and this time around was just okay. The cheesy potato I wasn’t a fan of and the broccolini was okay. This time around my amaretto sours weren’t perfection in a cup and I stopped at one instead of 3… with every sip I could smell the rawness of the egg white which was a bit nauseating.

Despite just the okay experiences NY Prime is definitely consistent on service and I love that. Everything always served hot and with a pleasant attitude.

I take myself on solo dates pretty often, so I’m very comfortable dining alone. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst service experiences I’ve had at a steakhouse in Atlanta. When I came in, I was greeted nicely at first. But after being seated at the bar, I was left waiting about 10 minutes while the bartender stayed fully engaged in conversation with three men sitting next to me. Even after that conversation wrapped up, she didn’t check on me or ask if I was ready to order. I had to ask her to take my order while she focused on other tasks. I’ve been a server before, with that being said it was bluntly obvious I wouldn’t have gotten any service for a while if I didn’t speak up for my self and that was not something I have ever had to deal with at a restaurant especially when I’m sitting at the bar which was not full or overtly busy by any means. I ordered the bone-in ribeye, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. The steak was good and the mashed potatoes were great, but the Brussels sprouts lacked seasoning and sauce. I also wasn’t offered bread until my food was already on the table which is again something I have never experienced at any steak house I have been to. As a woman dining alone, I’m very aware of when I’m being overlooked. I genuinely felt like I wasn’t being serviced until I made it clear I was spending money. That shouldn’t happen anywhere, especially at a steakhouse. I expect attentive and equal service whether I’m with a group or by myself. Word of advice to the bartender( shorter, long hair, young on the back side of the bar) sometimes men won’t be your biggest tippers and you shouldn’t undermine you’re customers whether you think they have money to spend or not.

Had dinner for my Birthday! Parking and valet went smooth. Had reservations and was promptly seated. Service and server was very good no complaints. The food was good but steak was not cooked medium like ordered, it was cooked medium rare. Everything else was good love the crab cake! The vibe was great for date night, dim lights white tablecloth, and the usual steakhouse ambiance.
