I stopped in while working a job in Lynn, to pick up 3 pizzas [cheese, pepperoni, and pepper-onion-mushroom], as a few folks told me this was a great place for pizza.

It was ok “bar pizza” as it’s known on the south shore, but “its different” [I was told] coming from Lynn. The cheese was good, as the crust was thin and nicely cooked. The pepperoni was meh-OK, but kinda skimpy on the slices of pepperoni. The combo pizza was soooo disappointing, as the mushrooms clearly came from a can; I didn’t bother to evaluate the pepper-onion.

I did like the way their pizza boxes interlocked for stacking.
Small parking lot, but it was nearly empty on the Monday lunchtime visit; 1 or 2 parties were in the restaurant.

Montes was a stop we made purely because Dave gave it a ten. With a score like that, we had to see what the hype was about.

The pizza was a straightforward bar pie. Simple, thin, crisp, and honestly just an ordinary slice. Nothing bad, nothing mind blowing, just reliable and familiar. It felt like the kind of spot where the experience probably hits harder if you’re hanging out with friends and settling in for a long night, but for us it was a quick, honest taste test.

Four stars for a classic bar pie that stayed true to what it is, even if it didn’t reach the legendary status we walked in expecting.

The original shop that started the Barstool rating. As a huge fan of Dave’s reviews, it was surreal to be able to order from here. Pro tip they only accept cash no cards. But you can order for pickup on seamless and pay that way through a card.

The pizza is good, not the best but very good just not a 10/10.. the dough is very thin and cracker like and good flavor.

Tik Tok supposedly said it was his only 10/10 pizza spot out of 1000 locations. I’d say it was good and a nice place to go if in the area, but not ‘best of the best’.
Atmosphere was quaint and comfortable. Service was great!
They are a ‘Cash only’ establishment but have an ATM by the door, if you need cash.

Visited because of barstool one bite review. Good “bar” style pizza. Different than usual Philly, NJ, boardwalk style. Reminds me of frozen pizza. Thin cracker crust. Was good if that is the kind of pizza you are looking for. Cheap. Waitresses nice. Dive bar type feel but I don’t even think they have draft. Proudly presented box and jug of cheap wine displayed behind bar.

The pizza crust is crispy and thin. unique in a way, but all the toppings we tried lacked any flavor. It was pure texture and no flavor. The best thing they have to offer is their house Italian salad dressing. They sell them in bottles too. The buffalo wings are not bad. The place only accepts cash.

It’s a great little spot, and they have a wonderful lunch special. Half a pizza and a salad it’s perfect for 1 person

Be careful of what you wish for. This place is a Lynn classic. I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s getting pizza and eating here. This is as basic as it gets. Only four stars because if you’re looking for gourmet, stay away. If you want basic red sauce fare and really good “bar pizza, this is your place.
CASH ONLY. ATM onsite.
If you want to eat like a local, come here for Italian and pizza. Go to Dubes in Salem if you want seafood
If you’re from out of town and you have doubts when you pull up to either place, just trust me.

We embarked on a East Coast Pizza tour and Montes made the list of contenders

Based on Dave Portnoy’s reviews this definitely was one we looked forward to

Monte’s is a small unassuming family restaurant in the small suburb of Lynn outside of Boston. On the day we visit our waitress told us the guy making/cooking the pies had been at this place for 50 years.

We ordered two pies: a sausage and a cheese. Dave rated these a 10 which is a definite stretch for me. They absolutely were great pizzas but for me it was a strong 8 maybe 9. The crust was excellent, no flop, crispy, buttery and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and mild.

The prices here are excellent – a small pizza was $10. We ordered two pizzas, buffalo chicken Rangoon’s and a house salad. My only criticism was the salad was trash. All ice burg lettuce – I wouldn’t bother with that again.

The service was great. Value was great. Everything was like $30

Bathroom was clean.

This place is definitely worth a stop but not a 10. Will definitely give 5 star though since I’d like to see it closer to 4.5

The pizza features a thin crust and is only available in one size, which was not satisfying enough to warrant a return visit. Since they only offer one size, we had to order two pizzas. The Eggplant Parmigiana was comparable to similar dishes at other establishments, though the portions were notably larger. However, be aware that soda refills are not complimentary. This policy is neither indicated on the menu nor communicated during the visit, even after I mentioned it was my first time dining there. As a result, my family unexpectedly was charged over $10 for refills.
