Our family order was 2 plates of Mofongo con carne frita. 1 plate of Chuleta frita with mofongo. 1 plate of Bistec encebollado with arroz con gandules. 2 flan de queso. 1 frappe de Nutella. 4 alcapurrias. 3 relleno de papa. 3 coco rico. 1 water and 1 coca cola. The entire order was 122 and some change which is extremely reasonable and comfortable for the amount of food ordered. I honestly thought it was going to be way more than that.
The service was outstanding. The lady that helped us was a 10/10 full of charisma, quick and attentive. Made our experience wonderful.
The establishment was very clean and was beautifully decorated. The music selection was top tier. Service was quick in my opinion. We got there at 6:59 exactly and were out by 7:57 right at closing. We ordered by 7:05. Had our appetizers shortly after and we all had our food by 7:30 if not sooner.
I had been wanting to try this Restaurant for a while and finally had a chance to try it!
What would’ve made the experience better are some slight improvements to the food. Nothing major but if fixed, life changing lol
The relleno de papa were ok. They lacked a bit of flavor but considering where we’re at, it was not a big deal however they were cold inside. We still ate them, didn’t complain because it wasn’t a big deal but It just was not cooked all the way. The mashed potato portion kinda tasted like instant mashed potato was used. Personally, that’s what it reminded me of. My husband ate mine lol I moved on to the next.
The alcapurrias de carne were amazing but could’ve also been cooked a bit longer. I feel like the center was mushy and not crunchy as it should have been but it was still very flavourful. We make them at home occasionally for gatherings but it had been a while and it definitely hit the spot.
The mofongo was honestly probably the best I’ve ever had here in Texas. I’ve tried many places in the DFW area specifically for mofongo which have been good but this one takes the cake. The consistency was perfect. It wasn’t dry, it has the right hard chunks which wasn’t chicharron like most places. It was just deeper fried chunks of plantain. Topped with some mayo ketchup. 10/10 amazing.
Now the meat (this goes for all the plates) was very very very greasy. Not a big deal but if it would’ve had less grease it would’ve probably been better. I had never had carne frita with so much oil. Typically is either really dry or juicy inside but no oil like that. I feel like it could’ve been set to drain a bit before putting it on the plate.
The plate presentation was really nice. The meals came with a salad that was good. Your basic salad. The ranch dressing they provided was great value which isn’t the best. I don’t usually care for brands except for dressings and drinks lol and great value ranch just doesn’t taste as well as other brands. I would suggest to try a better brand.
Going back to the meat, it was extremely flavourful! No complaints there. It was seasoned to perfection the only meat that can be improved is the Bistec. The meat portion for that plate was relatively small compared to all the other plates I guess because of how thin it really was but it could’ve been cooked longer. Maybe make thay extra oil useful by frying it longer. I would even go as far as asking for a cooking level as some people like it more cooked than others.
The arroz con gandules was good and you can tell they used medium grain rice which made the rice feel and taste even more authentic.
The flan de queso was an absolute masterpiece. It was so so good and the Nutella frappe was delicious. It could’ve used a little more Nutella but it was still delicious.
I would try this place again honestly. My family and I rarely re visit the same restaurants as we like to try something new each time but I would make an exception for this place specially for when the craving hits.
I would definitely recommend trying it out on your own or with friends and family! If you’ve never had puerto rican food, this is a great place to give it a try!
When I arrived, I saw that the sign was off and thought it was closed, but the restaurant is open, it’s just that their sign has some problems and they are trying to fix it. So, get there and go in, it is open.
**Warning**: arrive with an empty stomach because you’ll want everything on the menu.
Thank you Carla for the suggestion and thank you Lynnette for checking on us.
