Social Profile:

Born in Tradition. Chef Roza Segoviano opened La Catrina Mexican Kitchen with her husband Juan Segoviano. She was inspired by the culture and recipes of Mexico. “It’s kind of like, every evening, when the sun starts to go down, the plaza starts to fill up with people, and the street vendors start opening up their carts,” Roza said. “You’ve got all these smells, and you just relax while you’re going around snacking. That’s what we want to do here — we want to kind of offer that same experience where you just come and relax and have some good food and some good cocktails.” It is the type of food they eat as a family. One of the dishes is named after Juan’s late grandmother, who created the recipe…the “Dona Nena.”

We stopped to find somewhere nice to eat and we will be stopping again. Wonderful food and great atmosphere! And the price was very reasonable. I recommend the loaded sweet potatoes and burritos.

Been here three times. I waited to write a review so that I can give it a shot. The staff is great and very attentive. The food is a miss for me the barbacoa tacos have hardly any meat, the meat has no flavor and it’s very dry. I think 5.50, a taco is pretty steep. Especially, if you don’t enjoy the food. The bar with all the condiments is a nice touch. They keep everything fresh and clean. The avocado sauce at the bar is just mayo with a touch of avocado. Who wants mayo on their taco. Oh, I almost forgot….. The black refried beans. Yuck, very watery, the flavor was weird and I just couldn’t eat them. Any who, not my cup of tea and would not go again.

I really enjoy this little Mexican place! Great food options…the tacos are all delicious. I tried the tamales this last time…first I ever had and they were SOO good! Also had the elote, which never disappoints.

If want a drink that’s off the wall and very delicious, try the spicy margaritas. Surprisingly spicy yet very tasty.

I’ll come here everytime I’m in the mood for great atmosphere and some yummy tacos!

Always looking for a good Mexican restaurant and never expected this hidden jem in New Albany to be our new favorite.

My wife and I are Native Texan so we were skeptical, more so when we saw brisket as a taco option. My wife got a chicken and brisket taco as well as rice and elote. I got the Texican burrito. The presentation was fantastic and the flavor was beyond expectations.

My wife wasn’t a fan of the rice, but for my burrito it was a pleasant addition. Everything was so damn flavorful, even the queso! My wife fell in love with the elote. The Texican burrito most definitely hit the spot. If you get that burrito and leave hungry you might have a tapeworm

Also, Do not skip the condiments bar. Don’t know the names of the sauces, but the dark red in the back was amazing. All the sauces were delicious in their own respects.

Don’t skip this one. We will definitely be back.

Great margaritas. I love the bowls and the naked taco options are great for when you want to top them yourself.

The food was average, the margarita I got tasted like syrup! There was little to no tequila present. But really disappointed me was I was charged extra miscellaneous fees! When I receive my bill my $9 margarita was on there and underneath was an extra charge $4.99. I asked my server what the charge was for and she said it was because I ordered a grande margarita and got flavor. When I looked at the menu there was no option to choose different size margaritas, only one standard size, and the flavors were not an additional charge.. it was straight $9. I showed the server the menu and she said she ddnt know why that was just how it rang up on the computer! I asked to speak to a supervisor, she left and came back with a new check stating that she changed it because the supervisor didn’t feel like dealing with the situation! When I looked at the new bill there was a $3 miscellaneous charge. I asked the server again about this addl charge and she said it was because I got a chicken burrito instead on steak!!!! Now I must look like a clown because everybody knows that beef cost more than chicken! Plus both the chicken and beef burritos were $12.75! At this point I demand a supervisor and she tells me no because the supervisor is busy doing payroll and doesn’t have time! I wanted to go off but remained cool because at this point the server was trying to insult my intelligence! Obviously this restaurant needs to nickle and dime and scam their customers out of Pennie’s hoping that they won’t look at their bills! The sad part is that I tip really well and had she not tried to pull one over on me she would have received way more than a little measly $3!

The Margarita tower was super cute, but gave us a headache more than anything. Food was fresh and hot! Sadly there were no complimentary chips and salsa, so we ordered a sampler. Salsa and guac were pretty good.

First and foremost, the tacos here are exceptional and the value for your money is high. We live in town and have eaten here three times so far with never a disappointment to be had when it comes to the food. The chips and various salsas are great as well. They don’t pull punches – if the menu says there is habanero involved, it really does have some good heat.

Now the one negative – for our palates at least. The drinks. Man, if you showed me the menu description of a La Catrina margarita, I would be all about it. It’s Patron, Grand Marnier, Agave, and Lime. That is a top shelf most places. What is NOT mentioned is an unholy sour mix that’s wildly sweet and also includes orange juice. The only way we have avoided this is by ordering the Skinny Marg and asking to hold the OJ as it is the only one not pre-mixed. We also bring our own lime juice from home to counter the sweetness. I realize this is wildly extra of us but the food is WORTH IT.

In summary, you should go there. If you like really sweet drinks, you should go there ASAP. If you have a more traditional preference, they sell these little single serve packets of True Lime…

To the bar: If you could put a 1:1 copy of DKD’s “Chularita” you would never get rid of me.

Food was amazing! Cozy atmosphere! Service was OK, not great but had worse also. Pictured is my Tex-I-Can burrito that I could eat with my hands like a wrap
