We took our daughter and friends for birthday dinner. All of the staff were very friendly and entertaining. The food was delicious and we spent very little time waiting for a thing. The hibachi chef made a giant heart of rice, for my kids and then set all of the veggies on fire . They sang and brought out ice cream for everyone and a cheesecake for my daughter. Great time!

PART TWO –

To which I was taken aback at the absurdity of the question and replied with the fact that I had no idea how old he was and didn’t even see how that was relevant. He told me that he was going to comp the entire meal and I let him know that I wasn’t trying to get out of paying for the entire meal but wanted some compensation and he said “no it sounds like that is exactly what you want so I am going to comp the entire meal”. I was getting ready to walk back to my table when he stopped me and said “I would like to know how I am being unprofessional” I began to give an answer that began with “Sir, I have been in the food service industry for over 22 years and in my experience” – that was all that I could get out before he interpreted me again with “see I hate when people say stuff like that” to which I reminded him that HE ASKED me a question and I was just being gracious enough to reply with the answer that I wanted to. I never brought up my experience up until that moment and he then started to ask me for EXAMPLES of what my experience was. I said that I had been Executive Chef at several places and owned my own Company and he then wanted the names of the places. I could not believe that this guy was for real. I was totally frustrated at the point and began to list off the credentials just to prove a point but maintained my level tone and demeanor. I told him that I wasn’t going to argue with him and that I was going to go back to the table to get my daughter and wanted to end this conversation. He then said and I am not even exaggerating at all: “YOU KNOW WHAT I CHANGED MY MIND. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DINNER”. I looked at him and said “You can’t change your mind like that! You already told me multiple times that you were comping my dinner” and I started to turn to walk back to the table to which he said “IF YOU DON’T PAY YOUR BILL I AM CALLING THE COPS”. I got my daughter, took the bill from the table and as we were walking back up the host stand with the bill which I was intending to pay he was already there on the phone ready to call the police. I gave him my card to pay the bill and at this point this guy was shaking he was so emotionally bent out of shape. He ran my card and walked back and handed it to me. I told him I needed a copy of my receipt and he went to grab it but was still so shaky and charged up that he ripped it and then handed me the first copy. I told him I needed the printed copies so I could sign the receipt and he was like “oh you think I am going to add a big tip or something?” To which I said no this is a business expense and I keep all of my receipts. So he then handed me the torn copy and said “here is your copy” and I filled out the information and let him know that it wasn’t actually my copy, it was the restaurants copy because they keep the signed one. I asked for a detailed copy of the receipt because again I needed the itemized one for business purposes. In all of my years eating in restaurants I have NEVER had anyone threaten to call the cops or renege on their offering to comp a meal. This “manager” was so inexperienced it was painful and embarrassing. I feel sorry for his family who clearly poured a lot into the business because he is single handedly ruining the experience and reputation. He was a joke. Plain and simple.

The “manager” was the most unprofessional, immature excuse for a food service industry member that I have ever encountered. Our experience started with being seated at the table first and then joined by two guests. The two guests moved their assigned seats so that it was then impossible for additional guests to join and as a result, we were only four guests at the table. They even made mention that they were the reason the next four guests that walked in had to be sat at a new table. I specifically asked the waiter if my daughter and I could split the hibachi dinner and was informed that we could for a price of $12.95 which was great and I let him know I wasn’t sure which item on the menu it would be but we wanted “filet, chicken and shrimp”. I repeated this twice and he said they could do that. When the hibachi chef came out, he had an air pod in his ear and barely said hello. He began to prepare the food and had ZERO interaction with anyone at the table outside of the first mumbled “hello” and how the steak should be cooked. The only “trick” he did was to roll the egg on the flat top and then use his spatula and this lasted for a few seconds. That was the ONLY TRICK that he performed. The food was rushed in the cooking and lacked seasoning. My steak was not the filet but the cheaper cut of meat and my filet was served to the other guests. Our server did not return to see how the food was and I wasn’t able to even bring up that we had been served the wrong protein until everyone was finished eating and the server reappeared. The whole experience at the point was very disappointing and listening to the hibachi chef next to us delivering an amazing show made me realize that I needed to speak to the manager because we were not given what we had come into the restaurant to experience.

I got up from the table and walked back to the host stand and asked for a manager. I was told that he was on the phone so I just waited briefly for him to come talk to me.

I began to explain the situation as I just described above and from the start I was met with an inexperienced attempt at managing the situation. I was given interrogation-style questioning like “how many tricks do you expect”, accused of comparing the experience to “other hibachi restaurants” and told that my server did not say what he said about being able to have the filet, chicken and shrimp combination. I began to explain to the manager that I was not comparing the experience to other restaurants but rather comparing it to the experiences that I have had there. I made the comment that I “have been coming here for like 30 years” to which he incredulously said there was no way that was true because the business had always been in his family. I asked ok so how long has that been and he replied with about 27 years. LMAO. It was opened in 1987 so “LIKE 30 YEARS” like I said. This type of abrasive and combative line of conversation continued until I finally said that I felt like he was being unprofessional is his handling of the situation just wanted to share the experience that was had and to have some sort of compensation for the terrible experience that we had. He interrupted me when I was speaking and said “Why? Is it because of my age?” PLEASE SEE PART TWO –

This place is amazing! From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. The atmosphere was clean, inviting, and well-maintained. The service exceeded my expectations—quick, professional, and friendly. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, making my visit unforgettable. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for quality and care. I’ll definitely be coming back! A true gem in the area.

I have been eating here for almost 30 years and the manager on duty last night was horrendous. After stating multiple times that he would comp our meal after I explained that the hibachi chef was not anywhere near delivering the experience expected from a hibachi place, mistakes with our dinner and lack of server interaction, he then said he changed his mind and told me I had to pay the bill or he was going to call the cops.

had a very poor experience at Shogun. From the moment we arrived, it felt like they did not want customers. The host was rude and dismissive, which set the tone for the night.

The food was overpriced and disappointing. For hibachi, the quality was low and not worth the cost. The ambience was also lacking. It felt dated and uncomfortable, not welcoming.

Cleanliness was a real concern. The restaurant did not appear well kept. With hibachi cooking involved, that raises safety red flags. A place serving open-flame food should feel clean and orderly. This one did not.

After reading other low-rated reviews, I agree with many of them. This does not seem like an isolated issue.

I would strongly suggest going somewhere else. There are better options nearby that treat customers with respect and serve better food for the price. I will not be returning.

We had a bad experience. We sat at our table for 25+ minutes before I was finally able to flag down someone to tell them no one had been by for us – no contact; no drinks. There were seven at the table then. The hostess didn’t say anything and just walked away after I told her. A few minutes later three more people came in that they grabbed from the bar (they had been told it was an hour wait…). Our drinks went empty multiple times throughout the night and the alcohol drinks came out tasting weird/watered down. The chef seemed disinterested and didn’t interact with us at all. Multiple staff members were in sweatpants and generally lacked professional attire. The food was mediocre at best and the chicken was tough. Context – we went on a Saturday night and did have a reservation.

Not the best hibachi I’ve had but still good. The steak was as you’d expect, and the rice was good too, but the vegetables were seasoned poorly and our particular chef didn’t cook them enough. Going with a double portion of rice instead would’ve brought the food up to a 5/5 for me, but the vegetables really were inedible.

6-30-25 @ 730p sat across from table 19 and the chef was great but our waiter was absolutely horrible. Only got one refill on my drink and it was after a long wait and once it was out again was never offered a refill and for a $4 glass of tea this is unacceptable. While I miss the showgun in Chattanooga I don’t miss it enough to deal with such shoty service.
