If you love country cooking, this is your place. Very affordable and a ton of options. The service was amazing; soooo friendly.

We stopped in here while traveling as qe were looking for a family style restaurant after getting tired of eating fast food.

When we walked in, it is obvious they have a mold issue because the whole place smelled like a hay barn. My son mentioned it smelled like a chicken coop.

Outside of that, everything looked clean, but dated. Im sure the carpet is older than both my teens combined and is probably contributing to the musty smell.

We got there right before the dinner crowd came in. This place appears to appeal to the older seniors, at least while we were there.

Even though there were probably 8 customers, it took forever for us to be seated and then to be waited on. Our assigned waitress disappeared and another one helped us out (she was attentive at least). When our assigned waitress came back, she was not the least bit friendly. We only saw her when she took our order, brought our food, and gave me our check, which I had to hunt her down.

Food-wise, everything was ok. The chicken tenders and buffalo chicken tenders were a hit with my kids and the sides were good. I had the chopped steak.

In Texas, a chopped steak is usually flame broiled/grilled. Here, it was an oven broiled patty, so that took a star off. Now, it was favorable, tender and moist, but the patty was swimming in grease. Im sure they throw them in a pan with hot water to keep them hot. Honestly, I should have gotten the meatloaf as this is what it tastes like, minus the tomato sauce.

The cucumber salad was really delicious and so were the fries and fried okra, but the mashed potatoes were not all that great. Also, proportions were really small.

As I was checking out, a customer was complaining about his to-go order and how his wife was ipset at the extremely small sides proportions.

They pretty much told him to call tomorrow and talk to the manager. After he left, one waitress turned to the other and said, “If she was complaining about the size of the sides, she probably shouldn’t be eating them because she is a glutton.”

Wow!

It’s been years since I visited and this was an awful experience I’m not sure if it was race related or just awful overall. I doubt if I will be going back. First we had to wait to be seated and others were taken straight to tables, our server didn’t offer any other type of fish although we asked what type was on menu, our plates were small plastic like material and all around everyone else had china. Our cups were even different from others. My cornbread was dry and hard and the table next to me had soft and fluffy bread.Staff wasn’t friendly nor attentive had to wait forever for refills after requests.

For over 30 years I’ve eaten at this establishment and typically the food is terrific and the service is really good. However, the last few times I ate at your establishment I have been serviced by a grumpy older woman. Now this woman isn’t new, she’s been there a very long time.. The first time I felt like maybe she was just having a bad day so I let it slide. However the last few times it’s been so bad, I had to let you know and give a review.

If you ask for a refill or condiments, it’s like you’re bothering her and don’t expect what you asked for to come quickly. You’ll sit there, looking at your food and wait for a good while. You can’t eat your food because you want the condiments. Today when we walked in, we were ushered straight to a table, however we didn’t get our drinks until at least 15 minutes or so after being seated. Now grant you, it was a little busy, at noon, but it was a lengthy response from her. She had been gone a long time after she took our food order and I needed a refill and never saw her. Then when she did fly by our table to go behind the bar, I asked for a refill holding up my cup and her response was “oh you want your only refill now? “I was unaware that I would be charged for refills, but I let her know I didn’t care, I would pay for any refills needed..

When the food arrived, it was cold. Never had that happen before at Stalveys. Being it was a cold day. You like something warm in your belly well, not today! The other gentleman at our table received the same type of service and treatment, and we really didn’t want to send the food back at that point being she had been so rude to us since we had walked in . Honestly I am not sure that was the waitresses fault being someone else brought the food however maybe she didn’t go and get the food when she was supposed to.

Management needs to take her to the side and let her know that people are noticing. I have a lot of friends and family that go to that establishment and they all have said the same thing about her. Well, now I’m telling them to start writing reviews. Something needs to be done and she needs to act a little kinder, a little sweeter, Instead of acting like she’s been there 30 years and doesn’t want a job. It needs to be said. I’m not one to come on and write reviews very often but someone needs to know.. To say that I would not want to come back is hard, because I really do enjoy the food. However, if I do come back, you can be assured she’s not servicing my table.

What happened with the food and service at Stalvey’s Restaurant & Lounge? This is my update review I have to give them less stars; did they get a new cook? Look at the picture of the “Grilled White Fish”.

The food was good, hot and fresh; the only thing that wasn’t that good (to me) was the cornbread. The staff was friendly. I ordered (2) to go plates: White Fish, Sweet Potatoes, Field Peas, Mac & Cheese, and Green Beans. I’ve passed by Stalvey’s several times and when it’s open the parking lot ALWAYS have a lot of cars there, so that was a sign that they must have good food. This was our first time eating food from here. I plan on going back again. Went back again for the second time. We ordered Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Collard greens, Cornbread Dressing, Sweet Potatoes, and Rutabagas.

I have enjoyed my time eating at Stalvey’s especially the Chicken Livers. However, today was my last day. Kinda hard to enjoy your food when you don’t have what you need(ketchup, butter, tea and pepper sauce) to complete your meal. When you ask for what you need the waitresses seem like it is a bother for them to get you what you need. It takes too long for them to respond to what you need. The waitresses seem like they are unhappy and don’t want to be working. This is a reoccurring problem at Stalvey’s. I was afraid to send my food back today when it was wrong because I did not want to bother the waitresses. I wish Stalvey’s well as it continues to serve the community but I will take my business to other restaurants where I can get good food with much better service.

First time eating here and the food was good. We were seated immediately, server promptly took our order, and food was served in a timely manner. We had no complaints. The food was good. Just your basic southern food, no razzle dazzle. Could use a bit more seasoning on the catfish though.

A friend and I went to get fish for dinner. Mine came out great..hers came out undercooked. We had to send hers back to get her fish cooked all the way. By the time her food came out. I was finished with my meal. I mentioned this twice, once to the waitress, and she never made a comment like “I am sorry or anything.” When I went to pay the 40.00 plus bill was asked how everything was and once again I explained the situation “no comment” again. To say customer service needs to be worked on is an understatement. Waitresses were standing up front, and they were counting their tip money in front of the customers waiting to be seated.

This was our first time to the restaurant. It was totally not busy when we got there. They sat us in the bar area. Wait staff was not friendly. Even when we told them we have never been here, they suggested nothing. Again, it wasn’t busy and it took forever to get our drinks. The fish we got looked awesome – deep fried and yummy. However, the inside was slimy. The shrimp and crab cakes were ok. Wait staff came to our table twice. To take the order and deliver the food. We had to stop others to get a drink refill. And then nothing was said when we didn’t finish our food. Definitely not one of the better restaurants we have been to in the area.
