I’ve only ever had good experiences at Vaka! The food is good and they have a lively atmosphere, perfect for a celebration or birthday. Food was freshly prepared and delicious. The music was amazing too! A great mix of Spanish and RnB music. If you want to be safe, book a reservation beforehand, especially on Friday/Saturday nights. Remember to get there a little early for parking.

This place is a Dominican Asian fusion. The concept is new and refreshing. You are there for the experience so don’t expect in and out. Sit back and enjoy cultures blend into one. The food was excellent and drinks as well.

First time visiting Vaka in Lawrence, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. I figured it might be another Latin spot with good buzz, but I was completely wrong in the best way. This place blew me away.

The menu is extensive and creative, blending Latin and Asian flavors in a way that’s both fun and unexpected. We went a little late, so we ordered a mix of appetizers to try a bit of everything, and every single dish impressed us. The flavors were bold, unique, and beautifully presented.

The drinks were top-notch, and the atmosphere was lively, modern, and full of energy. You can tell a lot of thought went into the concept, it’s not just dinner, it’s an experience.

All in all, a big surprise and a new favorite. Definitely not your typical Latin restaurant—Vaka takes things to another level with flavor, presentation, and vibe. Totally worth the visit, and I’ll definitely be back soon.

I’ve been here twice and therefore have two slightly varying opinions:
The first time, the vibe was upbeat (this was the case the second time around as well), and although it may seem like the tables are too close, you can actually have a good time with a large group of people and not feel like you’re dining with strangers right beside you. The food was amazing and they really have a fun way to hype up your birthday experience.
The second time round, our food came later than the first time and everybody got it at different intervals. Mine came first and was cold because I assume it was prepared first and they tried to wait for the other orders. One of our orders wasn’t put in and the waiter (who didn’t write down our orders) kept coming back to ask what we had ordered. This is the difference between having good and bad service.
Overall, the drinks are amazing, the food is great if it comes in time and all at once, and I guess if you’re not the only one celebrating your birthday that day, expect that the waiters will keep popping up to sing for different customers. The lighting is dark enough for it to be a bar, but good enough for a family night out as well.

Made a reservation for a large group on the weekend and everything was perfectly set up! The vibe was enchanting and the food was immaculate. I’d say it was a slightly more party vibe compared to some of the other Dominican restaurants in the city. It was relatively busy but the food came out in a timely manner and was worth the wait. The steak was tasty and this was probably up there in terms some of the best chicharrón I’ve had. Will def be coming back! Definitely best for groups but they do also have a bar I believe.

I received the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant, certainly. Although I wasn’t informed that the kitchen was backed up, we were assured that we could still eat. After driving an hour from Boston for the sole purpose of trying this restaurant, seemed worth the wait. At 9:20 we sit down, despite having placed a reservation in advance for 9pm. We are told the bartender would tend to our table… He never comes. After another 15-20 minutes a server comes by. He asks “who speaks Spanish” and addresses only my friend, in English, fur the remainder of the night. The server literally comes to the table takes my friends order and walks away, completely ignoring me, despite speaking to my friend in complete, unbroken, English… This happens every time he comes to the table. We order drinks and my friends drink is so watered down that it’s separated. My drink was way too sweet and didn’t taste alcoholic at all… My second marg that had a kicker was great however. Unfortunately, the server forgets every order he takes and bc he walks away from the table, only addressing my friend each time, he still forgets specifically my order after catching him walking away every time. We finally place food orders… My friends food comes out right away… My food doesn’t come and I remain patient. Unfortunately, after 30 minutes my friend completely finished his food and my food never came. I have to track down the server, as he is not attentive what so ever, he seems shocked that my food doesn’t come out and he tells me it’s too backed up and is likely not going to come out. Obviously this isn’t acceptable, it’s now been 1.5 hours, I’ve been ignored all night, and the server forgot specifically my order every step of the way and now only my food isn’t coming, AFTER multiple rounds of drinks and my friends food. He never informed me or tried to make it right. Disgusted, I ask for the check and a box for my friends food. Bc now I have to drive back to Boston on an empty stomach bc the pictures looked great! It’s all a lie.. the box for the left over food didn’t even come and the restaurant was half the capacity of when we arrived, literally half the seats are empty. I felt racially profiled and that the server went out of his way to give me a terrible experience. I’m told this is a Dominican place and their culture is skin color oriented. My friend is white presenting and speaks Spanish and I’m a light skinned black person. It was immediately clear to me that my input and experience would not be attended to. I watched, hungry, as everyone else was able to get their food, I continued to watch food come out for ppl that arrived an hour after we did, just the two of us. I watched ppl come in and have full birthday sushi spreads and singing, having arrived an hour after us. The level of failure was stunning and I waited a week to write this review. I am top ten on the planet in these kind of reviews and frankly, this was probably the WORST experience I ever had in a cultured setting. I’m puzzled how this place could remain open. Everyone was attractive but the drinks? Separated. Food? Non existent for me despite a reservation and patiently waiting over an hour (literally, 67 minutes). I was mortified but the server set the tone that I wouldn’t be relevant early on. I paid for the check, left a 30% tip, on top of the auto gratuity. Maybe he can invest in some form of training. Really stunning. And the music was way too loud for a place with such bad service. The place was nice and speakers the appropriate quality… But that service? Not worth the rush fur any occasion. There were door dashers getting serviced, like 20 of them, whilst the brown boi watched all the light skinned ppl eat, despite being the bill payer. Crazy, stunning, and monumental failure. You’re better off at McDonald’s, hell, Burger King. I might go back and try it again though bc unfortunately I didn’t really get to try anything bc I didn’t believe he even took my order. It was actually much worse but I like to let some time pass so I can be fair. ABYSMAL.
