Such a vibe! We enjoyed drinks from their craft cocktail section (Naked in Brussels was great), and their Paper Plane (not in the menu) was TOP. The flat bread was quick to come and their service was fantastic. Sat at the bar (our favorite) and enjoyed it.

One of the best beer bars in the world. I personally think better than Churchkey especially if you love Lambic. Their selection of specialty beers was huge and fair prices especially considering the rare bottle collection. If you love lambic you could be here every day of your trip. Some bottles are limited 1 per group. Service was top notch and each person I talked with was very knowledgeable. Overall if you love great beer then this is your place when visiting the DC area!

I got there when it opened. I ordered off the appetizer part of the menu – I had the steak tartar, picked vegetables and the gruyere croquettes. I also had two Belgian beers. The rest of the menu looked interesting and would be interested to go back. I wasn’t paying attention when I first went looking for it and it was way up an alley – I walked right past it :-). Their ‘Bicky Sauce’ is ketchup and chili powder

Made a reservation for brunch on a Sunday before heading to Reagan Airport.
The approach to the restaurant is charming with accent lights and lanterns.
Upon arrival we were seated at a booth. My companion’s side was still wet from cleaning and made their pants wet. We asked to be moved.
The staff was nice but details that make service excellent were missed. We waited for condiments and the food runner stood by the table putting plates in our faces with no communication. We were not asked or offered any coffee or soda refills.

I was so excited to try this place out, but unfortunately I left disappointed. The bartender was nice and the vibe was great but the reason I came was for the bitterballen. Having lived in the Netherlands for 3 years, these were a miss for me. I’d love to see The Sovereign rework their recipe to make it more authentic to the flavors and texture of real bitterballen. My main problem is that they were missing the characteristic gelatenous fat flavor and texture. It should be like a little gravy ball with some beef. Sadly it was just shredded beef and the center I was still cold. Anyway, you can tell I’m passionate about bitterballen. Thanks for offering bitterballen as an option in DC; I just wish they were more like what I remember from the Netherlands.

We stopped in for a quick drink and loved it. Great atmosphere, lively vibe and great staff made this place stand out. We didn’t have time to eat, but definitely will be back to try the menu soon.

Lively atmosphere. Rustic ambiance.
Service was efficient but lack of warmth.
Felt like they were short on service staff on the Saturday we visited.
Cocktails were tasty.
Food came out fast, delicious, and ingredients were fresh. Platings were beautiful.
Noise level high. Bar vibe to the fullest.
Don’t recommend come with young kids.
Good value . Price is comparable to the nearby businesses.
Location is convenient. Walking distance to shops in Georgetown, DC

The Sovereign was a wonderful surprise. The food, environment, and service were all fantastic—everything came together to make it a memorable evening. We were impressed by the quality and taste across the board, and the portions felt very reasonable for the price.
A special mention goes to their cocktail Naked in Brussels—absolutely worth trying and a highlight of the night. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a spot in Georgetown.
