The food took an additional 15 minutes and didn’t even arrive all at once. When it finally came out, it looked and tasted awful. Several items were missing, including our bread and poached eggs. When the eggs did arrive, they were rock hard and extremely overcooked. A friend ordered grits and was asked if he wanted cheese; they added cheese, but it was a cold slice of American cheese simply placed on top—not even melted. And this is just regarding the food.
The service was neither great nor terrible. However, it was odd to have two different servers bringing out our food. On top of that, the person who delivered some of our dishes smelled strongly of weed and had a poor attitude, which made the experience even more uncomfortable.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I really wish it had been much better in many ways.
1. This isn’t a swanky brunch place. Rather, it’s a mix between a diner and mom and pop shop. The food, however, is tasty. I’ve had 6 of their egg dishes (the Pan de Mais and Avocado, Mushroom & Jack omelet are my standbys) and never have to use salt or pepper, just a little hot sauce for kick. Everyone knows they’re lemon ricotta pancakes are delicious, so I’ll just say I really like that you can order them by piece. I ALWAYS order just ONE as my dessert. Their home fries always approaches that line of being too oily, but never crosses it. They’re tender with lots of crispy bits and and perfectly seasoned. I sometimes opt for the grits (when I want to feel
“healthier”). While they’re pretty plain, they’re perfectly cooked and delicious with some butter and shredded cheddar, which they’ll gladly give you. Oh, they also offer egg whites for those who want to sub. One last thing, if you want a hot sauce (that isn’t from a jar), ask for their chipotle sauce for their Pan de Mais. It’s smoky, a little creamy and delightfully spicy. It goes so well on any of their egg dishes!
2. The staff here is just the nicest. They’re typically very busy on the weekends (get there before 11a to decrease your wait time), so their staff hustles, but I never feel rushed. Rather, I always feel welcomed and cared for.
Across the board, the management, the servers and the bussers are nice people. They joke, they’re patient and will help you out. I once asked the busser to please get our server because we needed more sweetener and instead, he went back and got it himself. The busser still let our server know and she came by a minute later and apologized for not doing it herself. Another good example is whenever they’re busy, they all help each other out with running food, refilling coffee and checking in on folks. It’s a tight space in there, but they make it work and do it well.
I love this place and as long as they remain consistent, they’ll have a happy customer out of me, my friends, my colleagues, my students, my out-of-town guests and anyone else who asks me where to go for brunch. Lastly, if you’re looking for two more reasons to come, know that they’re local and women-owned.
My daughter and I went inside to place a ToGo order for breakfast and we left completely disappointed!
We ordered a rather simple 2egg breakfast with cheese home fries, bacon and toast. One order had rye toast the other wheat toast. Something we’ve both ordered from here before. First issue was it took a while for anyone to even acknowledge we were there. Second the young lady that came to take our order couldn’t work the screen so we had to wait again for her to “find” someone else to assist us.
While these aren’t a huge deal it was still a bit annoying. But the real issues started when our very simple order took 35 mins before being ready. Meanwhile we had front row seats watching people that came in after us and placed to go orders leave before us.
We finally get our food and it’s only a 1/2serving of home fries and eggs. No Bacon,No toast, No cutlery and and incomplete serving of home fries plus it was cold. I tell the young lady at the front we’re missing bacon and toast from these orders as well as it’s cold and not a full order of home fries, and she takes the boxes to the back (no apologies or nothing) She comes out with the order wrong again. She added 3 pieces of bacon to just one box and just 1 slice of what should have been toast to the other box, but instead I received 1piece of rye bread that was not even toasted or buttered (If you’ve ever visited here before you’d know each order has 2 slices of toast in each box) However I proceed to tell her were still missing the wheat toast and bacon for the other. Now were about 45mins after the time the order was placed. the server came back out,This time with bacon in both boxes, one slice of rye toast in each box. At this point i inform her we’re still missing the wheat toast.I just took the food and left because she was never going to get it right! They completely ignored the fact that the food was cold(even the bacon that was added was cold! SMH this experience was terrible to say the least! I most definitely will not be back.
(SN:Ive order the same meal from here a couple times, so thats how i know that I received a 1/2 order vs full)
BEWARE!!!!
