YEAH WE KNOW THE MARGARITA, IT WAS INVENTED HERE! For 125 years, Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada has been known as, “The bar that built a town” frequented by gunslingers, movie stars, revolutionaries and it has even seen a horse or two darken its doorways. The Margarita was invented at Hussongs back in October, 1941 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco. He concocted the perfect mixture of equal parts Tequila, Damiana, and lime, served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass for Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German Ambassador to Mexico. Not too many people know that, but it’s the truth. The story is on record in the Ensenada Historical Society and was verified by Margarita Henkel herself a few years back.

I can’t believe I waited this long to try Hussong’s! I honestly feel like I’ve been missing out for years. I ordered the Cali Burrito and it was absolutely incredible—easily one of the best I’ve had. The flavors were spot on and the portions were generous. I’m already planning my next trip back. Solid 5 stars!

We visited on a Tuesday night after Super Bowl, so vibe was positive and not rowdy. The enjoyed the fajitas. Standard fare and fresh. The tortillas are standard food service grade and not a stand out option. The 2 table side cantina style sals were tasty. Rice and Refried beans are standard fare. We learned they do not batter their chile relleno in case that made a difference. For us, we were shooting for a battered chile relleno. Bartender served us while sitting at a high top. She was friendly but just went through the standard motions. If meeting a group of friends in a busy Warner evening, sitting outside would add to the vibe and recommend to standard menu items or easy eats from happy hour menu. I wasn’t able to find any dish that was unique or stood out compared to other cantina style establishments.

I’ve seen this place for years, and finally decided to try it out. Now the atmosphere was cool. We sat out on the patio area which was covered from the sun. The inside had tables to sit and eat, but looked like a typical bar. The service was good. The waiter was knowledgeable of the menu and was very helpful with informing us of what food combinations were available to us. The food didn’t take long for us to receive it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best Mexican food I’ve had. I ordered the enchiladas with rice and beans, and it was unfavorable. It just didn’t have a good taste to it. The same for the burrito. It was a nice size, but it just didn’t have much flavor. It was just bland. The best thing I had was the churrios and ice cream. You can try it if you like, but there are probably better options out there for Mexican food.

All the staff were so friendly!! I spoke with David and Nick both servers, then the managers Manny and Jaki!! The staff REALLY added to the atmosphere of the restaurant! The food was amazing too! I had Shrimp Fajitas and they also served Chips and Two types of Salsa! There’s a big Patio if you want to eat outside and the football game was on, and there were like four other TVs and one had Trivia! Definitely worth the visit- AND they said they have Two other locations, one in Mandalay Bay and One on St Rose and Maryland in Henderson!

Our food took over an hour to come out and then was all cold and incorrect. My brother in law is vegan and was served non-vegan food. When he asked to reconfirm his food was vegan the server assured him it was. It wasn’t and he was violently sick all night after. My aunt and I ordered the same soup and mine came out wrong, when I asked for the correct one they came and told me multiple times I was wrong and it was the same soup but fresher. When I tasted both and they looked and tasted completely different.
Honestly, if they would have just not argued with us so intensely about their mistakes this horrible experience could have been avoided.

So glad we decided to come to this cantina. My enchiladas were perfection! Food was SO good! Our server Julie was fabulous! She was tending bar and still attentive, friendly, and quick. Music and overall atmosphere was great too! Will definitely come back.

The steak and shrimp fajita was so delicious!! The venue is very cozy and comfortable. The price point is perfect as well!! February 22 is National Margarita Day!! Brian was the best! Excellent service and super attentive. Honest with me about what choices would work according to my preferences. Told us a story that 100% convinced me to try the original margarita. This place feels like an aithentic part of history. (Im updating this. After an incredible time, we came back the next day with 10 people! Manny made sure we were very well taken care of. Honestly this is definitely a place full of incredible customer service!)
