Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.

Circa-1950 fast-food chain for counter-serve burgers, some stacked with multiple patties.

Typical tasty Whataburger. The floor was a little slick. The staff were very friendly.

Our visit this morning was absolutely disgusting. The manager was out of control with her staff. Not sure how they work in that environment. My dad’s coffee was cold when recieved. He asked to have it warmed…the managers response: we are too busy to worry about cold coffee. This is the third time to experience her horrible attitude. We put a big red X on this location, which means we will NEVER return.

Worst Whataburger I’ve ever been to. Placed an order to pick up. Told them I was there. The older lady handed me a small coffee cup, I ordered a large. I got the right cup as she said something to herself & I could tell she was taking about me. I had to go get my own coffee, they didn’t do it. After that they said my order was ready. I got to the counter & the older man reached into the bag with my name on it, took out the hashbrowns & put them into a drive thru bag. I said hey that’s my order… why are you giving it to the drive thru, I’ve been waiting to get my food for over 5 minutes. The lady making the hashbrowns says it’s going to be 3 more minutes for my food…ummmmnm what?? They were rude. I felt like they were taking about me & treating me bad because I’m white. That’s what it felt like. I’ve never had that experience before. They were all black but the fry cook. A lady appearing to be the manager was at a table with a laptop & mouthed, “I’m sorry.” I was just passing through while traveling. I will never go to that Whataburger again. I tried to be as kind as I could & did nothing to deserve being treated like trash.

Traveling late at night often demands a brief pause—a chance to stretch, refresh, and find a bite to keep the road manageable. On a recent drive, I stopped at Whataburger with modest expectations: a restroom break and a simple order of fries and a drink. What I found left me with mixed impressions.

To begin with the positives, the restroom was commendably clean—an essential for any traveler and not always a given during late-night hours. The exterior of this location also carries a certain nostalgic charm, with its classic layout and vintage design. There’s potential here for the restaurant to lean into that heritage and create a memorable roadside stop.

The service was polite, though the restaurant was out of large cups, a small but noticeable inconvenience. The fries were made fresh to order, which I appreciated. However, execution fell short. Though hot to the touch on the outside, they arrived undercooked within—frozen in the middle, as if the oil had not reached proper frying temperature. For a brand that prides itself on consistency, this was a misstep.

Cleanliness beyond the restroom was another area for improvement. While the surfaces appeared freshly wiped, the corners, floors, and less obvious areas betrayed the need for a deeper scrub. A touch of TLC could transform this well-located, charmingly old-style restaurant into an outstanding stop for weary travelers.

In short: a mixed visit. The bones are good, the atmosphere holds promise, but consistency in both cleanliness and kitchen execution will determine whether this location shines as brightly as the brand’s reputation.

I have not been in Texas or to a Whataburger in about 5 years. I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT! I forgot just how good the food is here. I was also very surprised at how polite and helpful all the staff is here! I couldn’t decide between a spicy chicken or a sweet and spicy burger. The lady behind the counter did not steer me wrong! Everything was amazing! She even remembered my name and came to the table and checked on me by name. Excellent service.

Has the best hamburgers in fast food, the price reflects it sadly but it is worth it. They are really quick with the order fulfillment. I’d highly recommend the sweet and spicy bacon burger.

It appears they have gotten better with their food. Upon the new management the service is quick but the food is in fact hot and ready to go. Now it’s been like this long enough to trust it’ll happen again so I can confidently say it would now be worth the drive

4 of the 5 people standing behind the counter have cell phones in their hands . Casheer has back turned ato guests while texting. Cook has phone. Very gross.
Ordered online for dine in. They gave me the food in a bag then rolled her eyes at me when I told her it was for dine in and never offered condiments requiring me to go back up to the counter to be ignored for 5 minutes while I wait to ask for ketchup now everyone is huddled up in the corner of the dining room having a good old time sharing reels .. since arrival I was met with rude stares. Eye rolling. And bad attitudes especially by the lady that helped me. I couldn’t help to feel it was racially movitated like I felt like I wasn’t welcome there at all as other customers with other skin tones were treated well and I witnessed the opposite of others if you know what I mean.

Terrable .
