There’s a fantastic mix of dishes including chowders, seafood curries, Italian options, and classic American meals. The portion sizes were perfect and the flavours were incredible. I highly recommend the spaghetti bolognaise, shrimp curry, crab chowder, and the mango dessert. The spaghetti tasted so authentic and full of flavour.
If you’re in San Francisco, definitely make time to visit the Blue Mermaid!
It was a chilly evening, so we asked for a patio heater. The first one wouldn’t ignite; they tried a second — also a no-go. We then asked about the nearby fire pit. They got it lit, but it faded out after a minute, like the propane tank had run out. Meanwhile we were still cold, and no one offered to move us closer to the only working fire pit, even though there were open tables right by it. Little details didn’t help either utensils were dropped in the middle of the table instead of being set individually.
Overall, I’d still recommend Blue Mermaid for the food and atmosphere, but don’t come expecting attentive service on a cold night.
Only complaint is that the menu posted outside (“dinner menu”) was not the menu given to us for dinner. It was missing seared scallops which I was looking forward to. When I asked the waiter, they said only the items on the provided menu were available. Fortunately, the items we ended up getting were delicious.
Breakfast was delicious, and we also had their clam chowder as a snack — absolutely amazing! And let me just say, their espresso martinis are outstanding… definitely a must-try!
Aaron provided excellent service, was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. If you’re visiting the Argonaut or Pier 39 area, don’t miss The Blue Mermaid — and ask for Aaron!
The oysters are fresh, but the Chowder sampler is incredibly tasty! Highly recommended
My friends ordered the New York steak, the chicken sandwich, and the fish of the day, which was salmon with lemon sauce. Both were shared and were also fantastic. The steak and salmon both came with a great serving of sautéed winter squash and broccoli. We also ordered a side of garlic bread, which was soft and airy but also buttery and very filling. We also ordered 3 cocktails and a beer.
In terms of the atmosphere, we sat outside on the patio, which is nestled in a scenic alleyway between the buildings along Jefferson St. It was quiet and serene.
Everything was reasonably priced; for 5 people we paid around $250, which includes tax and tip.
