The food is ok for the price but the problem I had was that one of the servers was standing behind the line talking crap saying “because all these people had to work so hard for their welfare checks”. ….. wow just wow.

Whoever was saying this should definitely find a different job. Fridays, Sat and Sundays will always be busy in food service. Also – this location is NOT in a major city either so it wasnt THAT busy….if the person talking crap couldnt handle that crowd then they are definitely in the wrong business.

For the most part you would think that everyone is familiar with Shoney’s, but for those who are not it is similar to a Denny’s in many ways. This particular restaurant was in Princeton, West Virginia. We stopped by doing our travels for breakfast. I personally only had the breakfast buffet, borrow our table did have one person order from the menu. Admittedly they do have an extensive buffet that also includes a salad bar at breakfast time, but it certainly not what you would consider high-end. I can say that nothing was particularly bad. Most items were very salty, so keep that in mind if on a low sodium diet. Overall, for the convenience I thought it was pretty good. Follow for more…

This particular location in Princeton, WV, is a disgrace to other Shoney’s restaurants that I’ve visited. I’d actually eaten breakfast at this location a couple years back and was disappointed on that visit, but they’ve continued a downward trend since then and I don’t foresee returning again.
This location was fairly busy during this visit on May 4th, 2023, and there seemed to be plenty of serving staff on the floor, yet it took way too long to get our drinks after ordering and since we were having the buffet, we were only checked on one other time other than to bring us the bill, but I did manage to eventually get a single refill after requesting it.
As far as the buffet, if you were only there for a salad and some fruit you were in great shape, otherwise it was subpar. The individual tending to the bar only brought out a small amount of the popular items at a time, while other dishes that no one was choosing remained full. The small “dessert bar” was completely empty with only a few crumbs of yellow cake until after we’d finished our meals and as I was taking a few photos to post, they only provided yellow cake with & without a chocolate drizzle and cookies to choose from. The ice cream cooler remained empty the entire visit and looked like it wasn’t even being used.
As we were departing, I stepped into the men’s restroom and immediately saw the nastiest restroom I’ve seen in quite some time, complete with a large amount of wet/nasty toilet tissue in the floor. It was obvious to a blind man that it hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. Inexcusable! Not sure I’ve ever posted a restroom photo in a review before, but made an exception this time. Too bad the Health Dept didn’t visit ’em on this afternoon.
Do yourself a favor and visit one of the many other local restaurant choices if dining in the Princeton area. Would’ve been a ZERO star score if possible!

Not the shoenys of 90s. Buffet was excellent.
I should 1 star for no country fried steak. But our waitress tried to get it. She had just started back a for a couple days after not working there for years.

So it’s definitely different, but still good.

The food on the buffet was fresh. Great homemade salads. Many options. Great service by Tessa. Hadn’t been to a Shoney’s in many years. Not at all what we remembered – so much better!

There was a roach that crawled on the table while we where eating. I have posted this on the day it happened and also contacted shoneys main office and health department but have heard nothing from anyone. DO NOT EAT HERE if the restaurant was clean this would not be an issue

My sister and I stopped here three weeks ago. I had misgivings before going in, as the outside was so messy and overgrown that we couldn’t tell if the restaurant was even still in business. We went inside and there wasn’t any soap in the restroom for the employees to wash their hands before going back to work. I had a really bad feeling about the cleanliness of the place and we left without even sitting down at a table. I have to give at least a one star rating in order to leave a review or I would give it a zero.

Lunch bar was awesome our waitress was an angel to my little boy who wasn’t happy about French fries not being on the bar she got them fries to him in about 5 minutes in the middle of the lunch hour. I was more impressed with the booth tables.

With the decline of the Shoneys restaurants, I have come to miss the Shoneys Dinner Bar. It was nice to see one right at dinner time on our way back from Florida. The red booths and decor of this particular Shoneys was very friendly and welcoming as was our server. The salad bar was fresh and well maintained. I would recommend this Shoneys for a quick and satisfying meal.

OMG I haven’t had a Shoney’s in years. Since they don’t have them in Ohio. Had the breakfast buffet. It was amazing as always
