A Perfect Engagement Celebration!

We recently hosted an engagement lunch for our son at Spasso Italian Grill, and it was absolutely wonderful. From the start, the team was warm, professional, and incredibly easy to work with. They partnered with me and my husband to create a customized menu that fit the occasion perfectly.

The appetizer table was a standout, beautifully arranged with arancini, fresh fruit, crab cakes, and an elegant veggie tray that looked as amazing as it tasted. Every course was delicious, and our guests are still talking about how good the food was!

The service was exceptional; attentive, friendly, and seamless throughout the entire event. The atmosphere was relaxed yet festive, just right for a celebration.

Thank you to the entire Spasso team for making our family’s special day so memorable. Highly recommend for private events or simply a great meal in the heart of Philadelphia

We had an amazing experience at this Italian restaurant! The fresh pasta was outstanding — the penne was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The veal parm was absolutely delicious, tender and perfectly breaded. We also loved the Spasso house wine — smooth and paired beautifully with our meal. Our waiter, Sam, was exceptional — friendly, attentive, and made the night even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

This place really was a pleasant surprise! We went to The museum of American Revolutionary War and walked a short 5 min to this place in the rain and had no regrets. The food was so fresh and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The price for the portions was pre recession. I mean really great prices for central city. I would recommend this place again and again. The pasta was home made ! You won’t be disappointed.

Got the Chicken Parmesan pasta — really good and i loved the al dente texture of the linguini. The portion, though, felt a bit small for the price. $33 for a plate of pasta feels steep, even if it was tasty.

I honestly thought this was a solid establishment. The food was very tasty and the service was exceptional. Very grateful to Lisa for her attentiveness and great detail to making sure that we had a great experience.

The restaurant itself was okay. Decor wasn’t anything mind blowing but the space is bigger than it looks when you walk inside. I believe they can host private parties, which is great to know.

I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a good Italian cuisine experience. Also, definitely can’t go wrong with any of their pastas, freshly made with great flavor!

So look—when you get invited to lunch with your boss, his boss, and the big boss, you don’t come empty-headed or empty-stomached. You come ready to represent and ready to eat. We pulled up to Spasso Italian Grill in Old City, Philly—because apparently when execs break bread, they do it with taste.

Let me just say this: Spasso is him.

In a post-COVID world where most places barely remember how to do lunch right, Spasso said, “Let me show you how we used to do it when the food came from the soul and not the freezer.” Ain’t no chain energy here—this is straight Italy, no passport required.

I ordered what looked like a humble plate of linguine in red sauce with seafood, but baby, that thing hit like Sunday morning on the third stanza of Total Praise. The noodles were homemade, soft but not mushy—had that little bounce to them, like they was tryna two-step in the sauce. And the sauce? Rich. Simple. Tomato-forward. Tasted like somebody’s auntie been simmerin’ it since 9am with the windows open and a Luther Vandross playlist on repeat.

The seafood wasn’t stingy either. Full chunks of flavor in every bite. Not chopped up mystery meat. This was seafood with a name and a résumé.

Even the bread came with style—roasted red peppers, parmesan, oil, and some lil marinated veggies that honestly made me pause and reflect on how blessed I was. That bread alone deserved a praise break.

Then came the cappuccino… listen. It showed up with a lil’ foam hat, cinnamon dusted on top like it had somewhere special to be. Smooth, comforting, and grown. No sugar needed. Just vibes.

We did have cannolis too—but I ain’t get a pic ‘cause the moment was too good to interrupt with a phone. Just know it was crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and balanced like a good choir director. Sweet—but not too sweet.

Would I go again? Without a doubt.
Should you go? Only if you’re ready for real Italian food and not that reheated stuff folks try to pass off in the microwave.

Spasso is where you go when you want lunch to mean something. When you wanna eat food that got memory, history, and respect in it. Ain’t nothin’ fancy—just food done right, with care and culture.

That’s my kind of spot.

Never actually post reviews but this place was very misleading, wine and service was fine. But the food was very disappointing. Both meals came out within 10 minutes and the meatball rigatoni felt like the meatballs were frozen from the grocery store. The chicken parmigiana was what looked and tasted like a big chicken tender with some noodles. Definitely not worth the price and definitely not an “authentic” Italian restaurant.

Spasso Italian Grill was a great option for our first visit to Philly. It was within walking distance from our hotel located near Liberty Square. Casual dining experience good for families. We had the bruschetta for an appetizer, it looked plain when it came out, but the tomatoes were full of flavor! My meal, the Penne Spasso, was a satisfying choice. There was a mix of mushrooms, peas, and bacon that gave it a ton of flavor. My son had the butter noodles with parmesan cheese and he ate every bite! This place has a great wine selection as well.
