The views are amazing! The sunset tonight was breathtaking! The drinks are delicious and the service is good. The food was underwhelming, though. I did the “High Value Meal” consisting of a waygu burger, truffle fries, caviar and champagne. The fries and caviar were great, however, the waygu burger was just ok. Or was overcooked and I don’t understand why you would put a waygu burger on an untoasted sesame seed bun. The burger was overcooked but flavorful. The pickles added a great crunch.

Unfortunately I can’t grade the food because we didn’t eat here however the DRINKS!!!OMG I ASKED THE waitress to get creative and OMG, she hit that perfectly. The prices was AMAZING. Our waitress was super cool too. I love a waitress to comes with a smile and gives the feeling like she loves what she does. The decor was really fly. Perfect for unwinding and relaxing. Love this place. Will return and such a beautiful establishment

Quesiton and feeback. ..Have u guys considered having house music events? Merchant is the best venue in the city, great remodel, beautiful…but there is no consistency. It just went from decent current music to like an old R&b vibe. It has such potential could be a vibey rooftop like Chicago. Or another city. CHARLOTTE NEEDS IT. Perhaps have a night that is dedicated for a specific genre. The djs are rough here. It was better before the dj came on. Please help charlotte and give us a hot rooftop vibe to come to ! Host an event. I promise you people WILL PAY for this venue ! BRING THOSE SUMMER VIBES that we so desperately need in uptown. MAKE UPTOWN GREAT AGAIN.

New Year’s Eve at Merchant and Trade:

We paid $500 per person (Tier 2) for the New Year’s Eve event at Merchant and Trade, located at the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel, and it was one of the most disappointing New Year’s experiences I’ve ever had.

This event was marketed as a luxury, exclusive NYE experience, and based on that description—and the price—we arrived at 8:00 PM with high expectations. Unfortunately, nearly every aspect fell short.

Food:
The food was genuinely bad. The highlight “tomahawk” carving station tasted like overcooked, under-seasoned prime rib and felt like a cost-cutting substitution rather than a premium offering. Nothing about the food justified the price point.

Entertainment:
The entertainment was borderline unbearable. A DJ paired with a live saxophone player sounds interesting in theory, but in reality it was cacophonous and overwhelming. The saxophone clashed loudly over the music to the point that we actually had to leave the event and go back to our room just to escape the noise. That should never happen at a paid NYE event.

Atmosphere & Attendance:
For a New Year’s Eve rooftop event in Charlotte, attendance was shockingly low—maybe 35 people total. Instead of feeling exclusive, it felt empty and awkward, with no real energy or celebration.

Midnight & Comfort:
When we returned closer to midnight, conditions didn’t improve. There wasn’t enough seating inside, and not nearly enough heaters outside to keep guests comfortable. People were left standing in the cold after paying luxury-level prices.

Tier 2 / “VIP” Experience:
We paid extra for Tier 2, which was supposed to include better alcohol and elevated service. There was no noticeable benefit whatsoever.
• The espresso martini station was fast and well-run.
• The old fashioned station was slow and, oddly, the only station with a tip jar, which felt inappropriate given the already exorbitant ticket price.

There was no VIP treatment, no enhanced experience, and no reason to upgrade.

Gift Bag:
The included gift bag consisted of what appeared to be cheap promotional alcohol-branded items—essentially throwaway swag that felt like an afterthought rather than a premium takeaway.

Staff & Management:
The wait staff worked hard and were clearly doing their best on New Year’s Eve. However, there was no visible management presence, no clear point of contact for concerns, and the overall execution felt rushed and poorly coordinated. The chef appeared visibly annoyed, which discouraged interaction. Several other guests independently expressed the same disappointment to us, confirming we were far from alone in our experience.

Final Thoughts:
This event felt like an absolute rip-off. Poor food, unbearable entertainment, minimal attendance, uncomfortable conditions, and zero value from the Tier 2 upgrade. New Year’s Eve should feel festive and memorable, not like you paid a premium to be disappointed.

I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for future NYE celebrations.

Had a great time at this rooftop spot! It was such a nice experience enjoying drinks with friends while taking in the views. The music added to the chill vibe without being too loud.

If CC is behind the bar, you’re in good hands. She’s an awesome bartender — quick with the drinks, funny, and somehow keeps the whole bar in a good mood. I stopped in for one drink and ended up staying way longer than planned because she made the experience so fun. Great drinks, great service, great energy. If you’re at the hotel bar, definitely sit with CC!

All of the staff were super welcoming and knowledgeable. Our server Aashana was super sweet and attentive. The vibe was amazing and super comfortable for a dine in experience. You could tell everyone at the bar was having a great time as well. We are looking to book this venue as our welcome party before our wedding and Aashana could even answer those questions. We are excited
to come back.

Stopped by here on a whim when we were walking by the hotel on a Tuesday evening. There was an event going on at the time so the outside seating was more limited but still enough seating. As it was hot out we preferred to sit in and enjoyed a cocktail. The drink was good but it is pricier here, like $18-$20. It’s nice but to sit outside and actually appreciate the view I would have to wait for a cooler day and/or when the patio area is not reserved to see what it’s like there.

If I could, I would give the service 6 stars. From the second we walked in, the atmosphere was so warm and inviting. Our phenomenal server, Aashana, provided excellent drink recommendations and curated an excellent dining experience. We got the brussel sprouts and truffle fries. Both were well cooked and had a pleasant flavor and aroma. 11/10, would go back again (and again and again).
