Social Profile:

Land and Sea Dept. is pleased to announce Lonesome Rose, a ‘borderlands‘ concept focusing on the rich cultural histories of the regional states of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. While this border may divide two countries, the histories of these regions have long been intertwined, informing and influencing each other across generations. This is no more evident than in the regions’ drinking and eating habits, where foodstuffs, recipes and techniques have passed continuously across these borders, improving with each and every pass. Lonesome Rose celebrates and explores this exciting history, with accessible, approachable menus that focus on the flavors these regions share, from the bright to the robust.

Creative Mexican & Tex-Mex fare & craft cocktails in a stylized warehouse setting with two bars.

Lonesome Rose is one of the most underrated spots in Chicago in my opinion. I’ve never had a bad experience here. This is an ideal brunch destination as I think they have the best breakfast burrito in town. Perfectly packed, holds together well, and the queso dip on the side compliments it so well.

Their biscuits and gravy and fish tacos would be my other top choices. Well worth checking out!

This was was nice especially patio seating when the weather is nice. Their food is good but I asked for the shrimp taco and got a chicken on instead. Really enjoyed my time here and the drinks can be a little strong. They also have frozen margaritas as well to try.

5 stars for Tyler the PM bartender
Knowledgeable and charismatic.
I also really appreciate that he asked if we had food allergies when taking our order.

We arrived late evening seating in the main dining area was closed so we sat at the bar. It was a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered to go.

The food was delicious. Very flavorful. I would describe it as Mexican Fusion.
We ordered a Baja Burrito and a Spicy Chicken Burrito

Baja was pleasantly seasoned and did not taste very fishy.
Chicken was great. It was spicy and had plenty of cheese. Very good!

This is a fun, casual spot to meet up with friends on a weeknight. I’m normally hesitant about these “upscale” Mexican or Tex-Mex spots because they try to be something they’re not. But Lonesome Rose doesn’t pretend to be something they’re not.

We started with the chips and salsa, which were a generous portion with two types of salsa – pineapple and tomatillo. Both were delicious and the chips were the perfect amount of crunch!

The ranch hand salad was delicious! Great ratio of dressing and toppings in every bite. My friends had the fried chicken taco which they said was delicious, and the carne asada nachos, which were smothered with too many pickled red onions.

Overall, a fun spot! Fun drinks and fun food to split or have your own.

My girlfriend and I had two different versions of the burritos and they were different than any other burritos I’ve ever had in a good way. The bartender was super cool and we tried five different cocktails four margaritas and a spin on a piña colada all of which are great.

As much as possible, when in Chicago, I try to make here for lunch or dinner! My daughter is a hairdresser down the road, so we dine together.
Starting with Chips & Salsa, especially the Tomatillo Crudo, is SO good! Then I move on to The Burrito w/Chicken. It’s stuffed full of deliciousness & lightly grilled. I always take 1/2 home to have for lunch the next day since the portion is so generous! The staff is quick & friendly, & the atmosphere is very chill. We’ve dined inside, as well as outside during nice weather.
Highly recommend!

These brisket fries I had were like a meal, so good, definitely would share as an appetizer next time with friends. Went for happy hour, loved the $8 frozen margarit, do the swirl! Bar tenders, think names were Shawn and Tyler, were great, if you ever go, ask Tyler something dumb, dude is hilarious! Great service, great time! Good place for a date or to hang with friends for sure!

Could not get a table for dinner yesterday, so went for lunch with the family. Book online as they’re busy during weekends. The cocktails were great. Tacos are delicious and the garbanzo bowl was tasty and filling. The creamed corn , watermelon salad, vegan street nachos ( amazing taste)and guacamole were delicious too. The taco ice cream and mini churros finished the meal very well. However we had to wait for a long time for the food. Cameron who served us was kind and apologised for the delay. All in all a great venue. It’s close to California station on the blue line metro

Food: I ordered the Fried Chicken Taco Bowl. With the exception that I wish the chicken wasn’t as hot in temperature as I was hoping, but rather just warm, I thought the difference in textures and flavors in the bowl complimented each other really well. I was able to finish it in one sitting and wasn’t over stuffed. I ordered the Chaco Taco as dessert: the horchata ice cream was the perfect compliment with dark chocolate and peanut-pretzel crumble coating. I’d easily order it again without hesitation. I additionally had the Lavender Lemonade which was extremely sour which I don’t mind personally, however it’s lacking in much if any lavender flavor. There’s a bit of lavender buds on top as garnish but didn’t pick up on it’s flavor in the lemonade.
Friends ordered the following: the Rodrigo Al Pastor bowl was savory and filling. The vegan Truck Nachos were very filling and can be eaten as a meal if not shared as an appetizer.

Service: As for service in terms of waitresses, our waitresses popped in randomly here and there but not much attempt at interaction. Good recommendations and conversation from one of the bartenders downstairs at least.

Atmosphere: Definitely a restaurant to visit during the day, it’s too dimly lit in the evening to enjoy the warm sunset pinks and oranges of the walls. They have a rooftop patio that I would be curious to visit during warmer weather.
