Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
Circa-1950 fast-food chain for counter-serve burgers, some stacked with multiple patties.

Visited: Early morning around 6:30 AM
I stopped by Whataburger for a quick breakfast via the drive-thru, as it’s usually a reliable spot for an early meal. A young employee (around 19, Black female) took my order at the speaker, which went fine initially. However, when I pulled up to the payment window, things took a turn for the worse.
Without a single word, eye contact, or any verbal acknowledgment, she immediately signaled with her hand for me to pull forward. I had additional requests—nothing complicated, just asking for water cups and ketchup packets—but she acted as if I was a major inconvenience. The entire interaction felt dismissive and rude, making me feel awkward and hesitant to even speak up for basic items.
In fast food service, especially at the window where you’re face-to-face with the customer, the professional standard is to greet or at least acknowledge the person paying. Relying solely on hand signals without any communication comes across as impersonal and unprofessional. It soured what should have been a simple transaction.
While the food itself was standard Whataburger quality, the poor customer service overshadowed the visit. Early morning shifts can be tough, but basic courtesy shouldn’t be optional. Unfortunately, this experience has me rethinking my go-to spots for breakfast runs. Hope management addresses training on customer interactions—it’s these little things that keep people coming back
There’s a few ladies I will say that I feel do great too but I cannot remember there names. Haden stands out and anytime I order and know he’s there I feel relieved. The other times I want to just drive by without ordering if I don’t hear his voice. That tells you a lot!
Thank you Haden for being so awesome!
(Only giving 5 starts simply for Haden)
Also shout out to back of house they did amazing. You guys are the best! Front of house need to get their shiz together.
No Bueno. They were not overly busy , no reason for a dried out disgusting burger .
I am a regular and this has never happened .
I work across the street so I was not able to come straight back and speak to mananget , so I called only to be presented with attitude .
Contacted corporate for both the quality of the meal and the horrible attitude of manager . NOTHING .. I have heard NOTHING.
I will never return , even to purchase gift cards for my co workers . And word of mouth goes a long way. This particular one I will stay far away from , it’s mostly about the principle . Don’t treat your customers like garbage , most especially the ones that constantly would give you business. adios
