Inside is clean, bright, and really cute—exactly the kind of spot where you want to start your day. The service was fantastic—everyone was super friendly and our food came out hot and fast. You can tell they’ve got a good team running the show.
The menu had a great variety—something for every kind of breakfast person—and the prices were almost too good to be true. Our whole meal was super affordable, with nothing over $10. The special that day was a sausage quiche, and it was delicious—flaky crust, great flavor. The waffle was enormous and still somehow light and fluffy. I also grabbed the 6-piece French toast to-go for just $5, and it was the perfect size to share (or keep all to myself… which I did).
If you’re in OKI and looking for a casual, friendly breakfast spot with great food and even better prices, definitely give Pirates Deck a try. Whether you’re fueling up for a beach day or just recovering from the night before, they’ve got you covered.
I ordered the shrimp platter, which was decent but lacked the fresh, coastal flavor I was expecting. My wife went with the BLT sandwich — simple and serviceable, but again, nothing that stood out. One of our sons had the wings, the other had the chicken tenders, and both said they were “fine,” which kind of sums up the overall vibe of the meal.
What really stood out, though — and not in a good way — was the service. It took a long time for anyone to even acknowledge us after we were seated, and we weren’t the only ones who noticed; we actually watched a younger couple get up and leave after waiting too long to be helped. That’s never a good sign.
To be fair, the food wasn’t bad — just very average — but when paired with the slow service and underwhelming atmosphere, it’s hard to find a reason to return. Oak Island has plenty of other dining options, and next time, we’ll probably try our luck elsewhere.
My disappointment here is mainly due to the customer service from a woman named “Shannon”.
From the start, Shannon was dismissive and unhelpful, which completely took away from what was at first an enjoyable visit.
Simple questions were met with attitude, and there was no effort made to be welcoming or accommodating. Customer service matters, especially in hospitality, and unfortunately this experience fell far below expectations.
Shannon stormed through the bar doors, to meet me with such disgust. I had never even spoked to her. How does one approach a paying customer with a bold attitude and lack of empathy for a situation? Human decency goes much further than a bitter powerless reach in efforts to embarrass a paying customer. Before making my exit, I ask what was your name again? She tells me and proceeds to ask “Do I need to spell it out for you” Completely unnecessary transaction of words and an evil spirit. Coming from a fellow bartender, I would never return to a bar with this “Shannon” as a server.
I truly hope management addresses this, because places like this rely heavily on friendly, RESPECTFUL staff — and this was not that. Truly disappointing.
We had a large party and ordered a variety of menu items. Blackened mahi mahi, ribeye, flounder filet, chicken tenders, wings and fish tacos. First we had appetizers of fried pickles (wayyyyy too much breading,) nachos (literally some tortillas with melted cheese,) hush puppies and Mac n cheese bites.
Without going into great detail, everything was over fried and nothing was fresh. I really hoped our experience would debunk all of the mediocre reviews, but it didn’t.
Our waitress was wonderful- she tried her best with what she was working with. In my opinion, they seem very short staffed with inexperienced kitchen/cooking experience. Hopefully they will improve by this time next year and there will be more positive reviews!
