Martin’s Barbecue delivers exactly what you want when you’re craving classic barbecue comfort. The food is pretty good in that dependable, satisfying way. Smoky meats, generous portions, and flavors that feel familiar without trying too hard. It’s the kind of place where you sit down hungry and leave full and happy. The barbecue has that slow-cooked taste, the sides do their job well, and everything comes together like a solid, no-nonsense meal. It may not reinvent barbecue, but it definitely respects it, and sometimes that’s all you need.
Tips to Make Puerto Rican Barbecue Like in Puerto Rico
If you want to bring Puerto Rican barbecue vibes into your own backyard, here’s how to do it right:
Season early and generously
Puerto Rican barbecue starts with flavor before the grill. Use adobo, sazón, garlic, oregano, and plenty of sofrito. Let the meat marinate for hours or overnight.
Sofrito is everything
Blend cilantro, culantro, garlic, onions, peppers, and olive oil. This is the soul of Puerto Rican cooking. Rub it into pork, chicken, or ribs before grilling.
Use pork whenever possible
Lechón style pork, pork chops, or ribs are staples. Pork carries flavor beautifully and grills perfectly over charcoal.
Charcoal over gas
Real Puerto Rican barbecue is cooked over charcoal or wood. That smoky flavor is non-negotiable.
Low and slow, then finish hot
Cook the meat slowly so it stays juicy, then raise the heat at the end to get that crispy, caramelized outside.
Finish with limón or vinegar
A squeeze of lime or a splash of vinegar at the end brightens everything and balances the richness.
Serve it family-style
Rice, beans, tostones, potato salad, and cold drinks. Puerto Rican barbecue is about food, but it’s really about sharing.
Good barbecue fills you up. Puerto Rican barbecue fills your soul.

Pernil was delicious, the rice was amazing and the yuca salad was reminiscent of my mom’s cooking. ❤️

I’m torn on this rating because the food is consistently fantastic. The chicken is always seasoned to perfection, and the rice and sides are flavorful every single time I visit. If I were rating based on taste alone, it would be a solid five stars.
However, the dining environment consistently falls short. Every time I come in, there is paper and trash all over the floor. It doesn’t seem like a lack of deep cleaning, but rather a lack of daily maintenance. The floors are never neat or the seats organized because there isn’t anyone keeping an eye on the mess as it happens throughout the day.
Management really needs to consider designating a specific employee whose primary job is to maintain the lobby and keep the floors clear. It’s hard to fully enjoy such great food when the seating area feels neglected. I’ll keep coming back for the chicken, but I really hope to see the cleanliness catch up to the quality of the kitchen!

We had the family combo and the chicken and ribs were tasty. Being tourists there was a bit of a language barrier but the regulars were helpful in translating. It’s like a fast food restaurant with a full bar planted inside the restaurant. I had a Bucket de Mudslide and it was a great value. We also had a side of pork belly and they were delicious. Will return.

This is my first time really getting a true taste of Puerto Rican cuisine and Martin’s BBQ. Did not disappoint I have pleasure to speak one of the owners or managers. When I explained to him that I never tried Puerto Rican food he took a little time and explain to my wife and I the different varieties that was on his hot line he even gave us a few sample pieces his roasted pork which was delicious. I will most definitely return to eat there on my next visit.

The food is amazing. The employees provide excellent customer services. The employees pay attention to details in your order. Very charismatic people there. The food area looks clean delicious! Great music while you are eating. Highly recommend!!!

The interior area very clean. The employees keep the area shine and organized.

The outside of the building need attention. The sidewalk or entry area looks dirt. The owner needs to pay more attention to these areas. Same with the dumpster area. Very dirt and scary.

The back side door used for (food entry and/or way to go outside and throw the trash) same situation. The outside area needs care!

The windows are cleans. Looks like the employees keep the windows cleans! Great job!

Looks like the owner put more responsibilities to the employees to clean hard areas (outside) instead of contract a specialize cleaning company. Saving money but sacrificing outside environment of the restaurant.

Puerto Rico es otra cosa!!!!

I come from Puerto Rico eating Martin’s barbecue and when they came to Tampa and I lived in Tampa, it was my go to for years it satisfied my pregnancy cravings, supported me through changes. Its my comfort food. today I go to this location (first time for me) And service was not good food smells delicious. The lady in the drive-through was a bit rude and distracted lollygaging with the cook. I asked her if she could tell me what sides came with my meal and she said that I can look on the board which is a bit offensive because I don’t know what I have to pay extra for or what I could request. Havent gone to one of these in a long time and its in kissimmee so i expect tourist fees. Food like always 10/10. Service, in need of work.

People be aware!!! If you pay with a debit/credit card they don’t tell you but the prices change. There is a sign a really small sign near the beginning of the line but it is easy to not catch. I ask the manager why am I being charge more per each item he says that they charge a 4% because they need to pay the merchent. I chuckled. So I looked at my receipt and they way they get around this “surcharge” is they add the 4% to each item causing your bill to be more. From my understanding it is “illegal “ to charge and kind of surcharge to any debit card. Their point of sale is by “glover”. I’ve eating out to a lot of places and no one changes prices when using debit cards. Someone needs to report these people
