Social Profile:

Botiwalla by Chai Pani is chef Meherwan Irani’s homage to his life-long love of kababs, Irani Cafes, and the late night street food scene of India. With Chai Pani, Meherwan captured an aspect of street food in India often referred to as chaat – savory, multi-textured snacks like bhel puri, sev potato dahi puri, and vada pav. But the street food scene is vast in India and with Botiwalla, Meherwan is diving into another of his big loves – grilled meats, flat breads, fresh herbs, and wraps. This is the scene that springs up at night in India, when the grills come out, the fires get lit, and late night revelers and commuters get fed.

I’m sorry that the picture is only the empty box, but the Okra Fries were so yummy that the family swarm devoured them before I could get a good picture. And that was with 2 orders!

If you are low carb-ing then these are for you. No breading, just seasoned and fried crispy okra with some fresh lime to squeeze on them.

I’ve definitely found a place and snack that I’ll be coming back for when we come back to Optimist Hall! So good!

Ok.. adding to my review.. these were so good that an hour later I had to go back and get another order. Enjoy the other pic with the fries that I had to hide from the crew! Don’t pass these tasty nuggets by!

Absolutely LOVED the food here and I’m picky about Indian food!
The vada pao was excellently seasoned, the bhel puri chaat was legit, and the paneer tikka was delicious. All well spiced. I washed it all down with a spiked chai (I always opt for less added honey).

Everything we ordered was 10/10. I cannot wait to be back to try other menu items. The menu is innovative while still honoring traditional Indian flavors. The employees were welcoming and kind. Definitely give it a try (do yourself a favor and get the wings)

We got the butter chicken special.

When we ordered we were asked if wanted naan with it, and agreed. We were charged $4 extra. We thought it was a free option like tortilla chips at some restored even free naan on a particular salad place near by. Honesty offering something that isn’t free, the Up charge should be explained ahead of time.

Our food was done very quickly and tasted delicious. My only other issue was the fact that we literally received four small pieces of chicken for spending $18 on a meal, I would expect a little bit more meat

The space is very big and open. There are plenty of seating. They have lots of spices and cultural items for purchase.

I am absolutely loving this place. The portions sizes are amazing and the food is delicious. I love the different drinks as well and from what people have told me it is very authentic as well.
Everything has great flavor and is extremely well cooked. My go to is the Chicken Tikka rice bowl. It had so many wonderful flavors with a bit of a kick.
Also the staff is very kind and helpful when you have questions about things.
AND I think the prices are very good too. Not too expensive like other places inside Optimist Hall.

Honestly, obsessed with this place. I’ve been in CLT for almost 3 years, and just had Botiwalla 3 weeks ago & then of course, I’ve had it two days in a row now. Read and don’t judge people!

It’s always fresh. Always fast. And tastes absolutely delicious. Like, it’s so good.
Me and their lamb roll, besties. SO YUM, go here!!!

Food was delicious. Very long wait. We were a group of 2 so we had the choice between waiting 30 min for bar seating or over an hour for dining room table. We chose bar seating. It was worth it. I would definitely try more food next time, but I wasn’t sure exactly what everything was. The hot chai was really good. We got the butter chicken and shared it.

This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants amongst the restaurant galore choices at Optimist Hall in Charlotte, NC. Few years back, they threw an amazing Diwali Celebration with pani puri cart, music, fire crackers, and a really lively atmosphere making so many patrons happy & dance to the Bollywood beats & rhythms. Many patrons were Americans but had a terrific time mixing into the Indian Culture and Music. Religiously, I have called Botiwalla ahead just to inquire when their Holi & Diwali Nights will be to plan a fun outing with friends. However, I keep getting turned down for having no Holi celebration. Sometimes, the Diwali celebration are kept very low-key without any proper marketing, announcements, or even special meals at Botiwalla. I feel having these celebrations really outshines Botiwalla as a big event holder for lucrative busy nights beyond the competition among Indian restaurants in Charlotte as well as luring the public away from other Optimist Hall restaurants. This brand name should be associated with not only serving excellent award winning Indian cuisines but also respecting the Indian culture via Holi & Diwali Celebrations. This would simply create a niche in the market as word of mouth would simply spread as the only restaurant with a festive ambiance since the only celebration in Charlotte is conducted at local Indian temples. I would be more than happy to give 5 star rating that Botiwalla & Chai Pani truly deserve after visiting & dining at Charlotte, Asheville & Atlanta locations. However, I would like to religiously go to this brand name for Holi & Diwali celebrations not to be found at any other restaurants. Please answer our prayers by being the only brand name restaurant participating in fun Holi Festival & Diwali that have been religiously celebrated for over 2,500 years. Thank you so much, Rupal in Charlotte
