As their website states : “The Virginian restaurant at the Occidental Hotel is named after Owen Wister’s immortal novel “The Virginian.” ” My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience here; although the wine list could use improvement with more of a selection. We each ordered filet mignon wrapped in bacon with sides. The steaks were cooked to order perfectly and delicious. Dessert was cherry pie for my husband and creme brulee for me. We reserved a window seat, and it was very cozy and private. It’s definitely a treat if you’re in the area.

Excellent service!!! They serve your dinner as it’s supposed to be – bringing appetizers, bread, and entrees in order and allowing good 30 minutes in between, so you can talk. Allow for 2 hours to really enjoy this amazing dinner experience. Food is great, elk steak is to die for!

Great service, limited menu. Food was good, however we came in an hour after the restaurant opened for the elk tenderloin, but it was already sold out. Wasn’t very busy so we were disappointed they ran out so fast.

Given my experience I will preface with “all restaurants cut corners due to…”
The elk bites weren’t “bites” but apparently slices of elk. The slices were covered in an unusually sweet broth. I say broth because I expected a sauce. No. They were swimming in a sweet water. I tried to chew through them and I was reminded of when i chewed jerky as my dad showed me how to saw tree limbs.
The “dumplings” on the menu were previously frozen and obvious. Show me a handmade dumpling and I will show every restaurant’s dumpling bought from a distributor
The prime rib was a disaster. Raw center medium middle and well done exterior.
The prime rib doesn’t deserve an explanation.
The restaurant should be embarrassed

We went to dinner here for the first time recently and it was delicious! The atmosphere, service, food and drinks were excellent. We’ll definitely be going back.

Too many waiters think their job is just to bring the food. Seems they were never taught about how good service is paying attention to the customers needs, anticipating wants and making the meal a good experience. Yesterday, my waiter was rude and absent. Ruined an opportunity for something much better. I blame poor training.

Outstanding food. Portions are medium–you won’t leave stuffed or with food on the table, but you won’t go hungry either. Everything I ordered was flavorful and perfectly cooked. On top of it, the new owner(since 2019) and servers were absolutely wonderful.
I would rate this higher than most restaurants I’ve been to in Seattle or Denver.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone searching for fantastic food at a reasonable price.

We had a reservation for 12 of us and the table was set and we were sat right when we got there. They had a very limited menu of 3 appetizers (one was out), 3 entrees and 3 desserts. They did allow us to order from the bar menu as we had three children with us and that menu had a lot more options. The ones that ordered from that menu had their food about 20 minutes before the rest of us. Four of us got the fettuccine Alfredo which was hot but boring. Four of us got the prime rib which three came out warm ish but one was barely warm with a cold baked potato. They seemed annoyed when asked to heat that plate of food up but it came back out five minutes later warmed. But they never cleared her plate until asked after the desserts had come out. The desserts were good especially the cheesecake with the strawberry sauce. We’ve been to the restaurant before and had great experiences but this time was not good and unless they get their stuff together we won’t be back.
