We finally made it to La Chata in downtown Templeton after hearing so many good things, and it absolutely lived up to the word of mouth.
We had the chance to meet the owner, Erika, who is an absolute gem. She walked us through how she makes everything from scratch daily, and it truly shows when the plates arrive. The presentation was beautiful and the food tasted just as good as it looked.
I ordered the red enchiladas and they were incredible. Erika was also so thoughtful and brought our son his own rice and beans to go along with my plate, which we really appreciated. My wife had the chicken taquitos and couldn’t stop raving about how fresh and flavorful they were.
Portions and pricing felt extremely fair, especially for the level of quality compared to the average North County Mexican spot. The downtown Templeton location is quaint and charming with easy parking.
Between the amazing food and Erika’s top notch service, we’ll definitely be back often, especially once we move to Atascadero and are only about 10 minutes away. We’re excited to have them nearby and will absolutely be passing along the same positive word of mouth!

Great lil taco stand with some absolutely great al pastor. My GF wanted a burrito and it was the only thing i could snap a photo of. Outdoor seating that really flexes in great weather. Parking was a bit smaller than I would think but worth the trip/delivery for the food.
The red salsa is spicy so watch out but the green salsa is just right for my taste buds and if you both its gains the super powers of all salsa.

Chata is her nickname…and what a special lady she is! Her menu is relatively simple but her food is anything but! No shortcuts here, just a delicious selection of the most popular Mexican favorites, with a few unique offerings, like mini potato taquitos (which are only available on Thursdays)! Full portions here that are very economical by any standard. Give her a try and expect a great value in return!

It’s hard for me to overstate how amazing the food is here. California has some insanely good Mexican food, but this takes the proverbial cake for me. I have no idea how they made the pastor tacos like that, but that was truly unbelievable.
We were lucky enough to speak with the owner as well, who was so lovely and friendly.

Ordered the taquitos de papa. Delicious and crispy! The only place that I know that offers these kinds of taquitos and I will be returning for more! Very quiet and offers shaded outdoor seating, perfect for our little family to enjoy a meal together.

Came here with my family and really enjoyed our meal! We had birria tacos as well as chicken and al pastor tacos. Everything was AMAZING and super fresh! This will now be our go to spot for Mexican food!
