This was a lovely setting. I made a reservation and was a smidge nervous when I walked in and saw a bit of a social hour, but the hostess took us to the back dining rooms where it was quiet and an intimate setting. The food was super delicious (try the cornbread!) and our server was attentive and cool. Oh and the burger was super delicious. We will definitely come back!

We went here and month or so ago for my birthday because we found out the mansion was under new management and wanted to try it out, and it had good reviews.

We were not impressed. The food here is faux fancy, and you can tell they are trying to have themselves present as an upscale dining place, but it just fails to be that for me. Our first clue that it wasn’t actually a higher end place was that it was around prom for one of the high schools so a bunch of kids were taking their dates here and taking their photos outside the building and trying to eat here as an approachable fancy restaurant. The second clue should have been their poor excuse for an old fashioned which was SUPER watered down. Just look at the photo. The glass was about half full, and either they added water to it or let it sit with ice cubes until they melted. A true old fashioned is supposed to be strong, but this was just bad.

There are way too many tables, and they’re too close, which ruins the actual cozy ambiance. We came for dinner but it was also really bright in the dining rooms, yet they also had these faux flickering dollar store candles in the middle, which was a little tacky.

The appetizer was supposed to be whipped brie and bread and they do give you a lot of the whipped brie but the problem is it is mostly butter so it’s like brie flavored butter which is just very one note.

The entrées were complete misses. I had a pork mojo which was braised pork and it was DRY. There’s no sauce with it and confirmed with the waitress that there’s not supposed to be any. In what world do you serve a braised meat without a sauce? It wasn’t enjoyable at all and was served with a grilled clementine for some reason. Rice and beans were underseasoned and fried plantains needed salt. It was all bland.

Husband got their filet which was a poor quality and chewy, most likely the cheapest they can get. It also had a horseradish sauce with it, which was bizarre. Horseradish sauces are meant to be paired with fatty meats like prime rib/ribeye where they help cut through and not a delicate and tender piece like a filet. I thought it was alright, definitely not worth the price.

The dessert was okay. They tried to make nice presentation, but failed sorely on the actual quality of the food. Giving 2 starts just because the waitress was very nice and gave us good service, comped the drink since she knew we didn’t like it, and gave us a discount for it being my birthday. If we were judging just the food itself it would be 1 star. We will not be back and I don’t recommend it. There are so many nice upscale restaurants around, so if you want an actual fine dining experience for a special occasion I’d say to look elsewhere. Honestly very disappointed and dissatisfied with our evening here.

I really wanted to love the mansion but it fell short.

First off, service was really great. Servers were attentive and friendly and we even had a manager call and offer us a gift card for a scheduling error on their end prior to our visit.

The space is beautiful and unique – an old mansion from the mid 1800s in O’Fallon that they have revamped into a restaurant/event space. We were hopeful with the newer chef/management that the food would be elevated from past reviews.

Unfortunately there were several misses. First off, the menu was a bit confusing in setting the overall vibe of the restaurant. It ranged from entrees like a burger to a Peruvian chicken to tikka masala. Nothing wrong with variety but we had a hard time knowing what to order when the options were all so different.

We got the sweet and sour cauliflower appetizer – was ok but it’s hard to hate a fried vegetable. The mansion salad was delicious but extremely large. I ordered the short rib over polenta which was fine. On the smaller side with the meat you get off the bone – tasted good but was very forgettable as just another short rib. The real miss was my husband’s special – the bone in ribeye. It was extremely overcooked and under-salted. He was barely able to cut it and unfortunately really disliked eating it as it was pretty unpalatable. For the price, it was very disappointing. The lady next to our table had just sent back a fish dish, so we didn’t want to bring up the steak as well. The sides to the steak – potatoes and a veggie were good.

Overall it was very far for us to travel for very mediocre food, so we will not return but the atmosphere was very neat. I hope they’re able to streamline the menu and improve the food being served because the potential is there!

We absolutely love this place. We’re always looking for a reason to go back. The variation of beets will be going out of season. So sad but they will be back next season. Can’t wait for the new menu roll out Wednesday

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I Came. I Ate. I Ascended.”

The Mansion isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a culinary fever dream where every bite feels like it was handcrafted by a Michelin-starred wizard with a meat obsession and a flair for the dramatic.

Let’s start with the Tomahawk steak. This thing isn’t just a cut of meat, it’s an event. Juicy, tender, and grilled to perfection, it arrives like Excalibur on a plate. I half expected a spotlight and theme music.

Then there’s the filet steak — buttery, rich, and so tender I questioned if it was even legal to enjoy something this much. It practically melts on your tongue like it’s made of meaty silk.

Oh, and the half chicken? Yeah… I don’t know what sorcery they used, but it’s somehow the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had. Like, how does half a chicken have twice the flavor of a whole one?

The pasta is no sidekick either — fresh, flavorful, and not just a carb filler. It actually holds its own against the heavy hitters. A pasta with main character energy.

But the real twist? The french fries — sorry, frites. These golden beauties are so crisp, so perfectly seasoned, I nearly proposed to them. You think you know fries until you have them here. They don’t just complement the meal — they elevate it. I’d come back just for those.

Staff? Top-notch. Atmosphere? Elegant but unpretentious. Price? Worth it. Waistline? Under siege.

In conclusion: If you’re not eating at The Mansion, you’re doing food wrong.

We have eaten at The Mansion twice since Christmas. The new owners have done a lovely job updating the restaurant without loosing its historic charm and the food is excellent. The service is good, but they could use some improvements. They need a coat check service. Sometimes the courses overlap and if you’re at a small table for two there is not enough room for all the plates. If customers use the front door entrance (which is beautiful), then they need a hostess desk to greet them and handrails for the steps. But let me say again — the chef is a 5-star chef and the menu is excellent. We will be coming back.

The cuisine that was served by an inate, and cordial staff was visually delectable. The dishes reached the senses of the soul, and excited the palette. The experience is a fine addition to the ever growing O’Fallon community. I would like to add a compliment to the chef, as they have an incredible, and unique sense of flavor.

Very good dining experience. Polite staff and amazing decor. Food came out at a decent speed and was delicious. The price of food is a bit higher than most places, so expect to spend a little more than usual, however the price does match the quality (atmosphere, presentation of dish, quality of food). They do not have a strict dress code, so I was able to relax in some easygoing (but modest) “street” clothes. Overall a very enjoyable experience!
